I recently used Zar honey maple stain for some guitar work and I liked it and so I decided to give their amber a try and being able to purchase numerous supplies I needed from a single source was also a factor. I know there are tints out there specific for guitar work but that also requires purchasing from specific distributors and for some it may be worth any additional cost. But if I can accomplish the same goal then I'll get supplies where it saves me coin and is most convenient.

I used this for neck work. I am currently working on a vintage style P-bass and strat. 50/60's era type builds. Straight out of the can this is pretty concentrated and even one coat gives a pretty dark tint. You can thin it out however to go lighter if you choose. I feel like the honey maple that this was a good stain to work with for my needs. I applied it slowly with a lint free cloth and it applied nice and even although the prep work/sanding will be a factor in determining how well it goes on. But assuming you do a good job then this applies well. I was able to get a slight tint all the way to a dark orange type tint you might see on a guitar that has seen a lot of use in smokey environments.

Overall no complaints. It does the job I need it to do and a single can will last me a very long time. The few products from Zar I have used so far I like. Enough so I'll try more stains and I plan to try there lacquer as well. Good value and it does the job. Nothing more to say.

This stuff looked terrible. I am glad I tested it before applying it to a project.Does not look anything like the sample photo's example.
