If you know Hal Sparks from "Queer as Folk" or quips on VH1, you only know half the story. Hal Sparks is not only a talented actor and brilliant comedian, he is also a gifted musician.

It is the musical quality of this CD that will surprise you the most.

There are hard rocking metal tracks like "Mad Season", "Helsinki" and the socially conscious "Animal", but there are also deeply faceted songs like "She Waits", the seductive "Indian Summer" and the beautifully arranged "S.O.S.".

In each track you can see that Hal is as diverse a musician and singer as he is an actor.

Add to that the musicianship of bassist Rob Hall and drummer Miles Loretta, and you have a well rounded band that will entertain, surprise, rock and seduce you with each note.

You will not have to be a fan of metal or Hal Sparks to be a fan of Zero 1. Just a fan of music written and performed well with heart and passion.

Based on the songs I heard from the Zero 1 MySpace page, I knew this CD would be good. What really impresses me is, not only is every song musically strong, the variety is immense. Basically, this CD rocks in every way.

So while I'm not a huge fan of Megadeth, Metallica or anything else beginning with M:), I'll admit I'm diggin this album. I'm impressed with the quality of music, especially since I own a ton of independent label music---while I won't say that Zero 1 has a brand new sound, I will say they put an interesting spin on stuff we know and have heard. I'm interested to see what they do for a follow up; while I know Metal is the forefront here, the balladesque stuff they do on this album is radio worthy.

Song to listen to: She Waits----It reminds me of something Lifehouse or OAR might do, but Zero 1 does it better. I hope they do more songs like this. It's freaking epic and beautiful. The instrumental pieces alone make this song stand out on the album. And Hal Sparks brings it!

I was shocked when I first played this CD. The passion was definately strong. Hal's voice gave me chills. Like the other reviewer said, I have just about worn the CD out and have only owned for about 3 weeks. I do like some metal and this was a perfect mix of different musical genres. I also think that two of the songs reminded me alot of Daughtry (from American Idol fame). I hope a new CD will be forthcoming from this exceptional band.

Zero 1's debut CD is amazing. I've practically worn the thing out. 'Helsinki' reaches out of the speakers and punches you in the face. Hal Sparks rips it up on the guitar and lead vocals, and has great back up on drums and bass. Most of the songs have a very heavy, fat sound, but there are metal ballads on there too, if you're into 'em. :)

Not your normal 'I'm an actor, and this is my band' band. I promise.
