Great little modem to use with Centurylink service.
Joseph Harrell
The Zoom modem crashed and burned constantly, usually 2 to 3 times an hour and to get the connection back I had to reboot the modem.

Basic configuration is simple, but not all of the advanced features/settings are documented in the user guide.

I say WOW in my heading because that's how I felt after quickly and easily installing the Zoom X7n DSL 2/2 - Modem/Router. I'm not a techie so I can't and won't try to give you a tech talk review. It's plain and simple, this modem router is a terrific product:
Pros:
Easy to install - Just pop in the enclosed CD. The software is simple to use, it is browser based (access using Explorer, Mozilla, etc.). The software is very simular to that used by Netgear. (Last year I tried to install a Linksys router and never could understand the software and gave up). The Zoom worked on my Centurylink DSL line with no addtional settings (you do need to enter your DSL account user ID and password.)
Excellent written instructions - A Quick Start Guide and printed User Manual are included for installation and getting started, the have clear non-techie language, easy to follow.
High performance- I live outside a small rural town, Centurylink told me not to expect much more than 5 mb of speed, first speedtest on my laptop connected wirelessly to the Zoom showed a speed over 6 mb. My laptop and Kindle Fire had no problem finding and connecting to the router.
Excellent range - the twin antennas provide strong signal throughout my house, the Router resides in my basement office.
Complete Kit - The modem/router comes with a Quick Start Guide, User Manual, Ethernet Cable, Phone Cord, Phone/ADSL line splitter, Energy Saving power cube.
Size - Unit is small 7" x 5" x 1.25", can be mounted vertically on a wall.
Price - Great value for the Amazon price.
CONS: None that I can find.

Great product, great price. I gave it 5 stars.

Only glitch in installing it was the "automatic" configuration software supplied does not work with Windows ME. The browser interface works like a champ though. Type [...] into a browser window and you access the browser interface (or do after you type in the user/pass supplied in the manual)

I did try the software with Windows XP and that works, but I prefer the browser setup.

After you make changes to the configuration SAVE THEM... When you have it working as you like, make a backup of the configuration.

If all else fails, it is easy to do a hard reset of the settings via a pushbutton on the back of the modem and start over.

I can finally retire that piece of junk the telco supplied with my DSL service, without the telco's $5/month additional charge for wifi.

I switched out my X6 that I've been using for the past 6+ years with the X7 and didn't notice a difference really. - Though on some sites, using my X6 allowed them to open faster. Don't get me wrong, this is a good product. - I just prefer my X6.
