Wow, very impressive GPU! Averaged 60+ fps on the 1st level of Crysis with 1680x1050, DX10, 4xAA, 4xAF, all VERY HIGH, except the shader on HIGH (This is the main performance killer setting, shaved off 20+ fps going from HIGH->VERY HIGH). Finally, I get to enjoy Crysis like how it was designed to be after 2 freaking years.

I chose the GTX470 instead of ATI 5850 for 3 reasons:
1) I got this Zotac at $349, which was a mere $20 > most of the ATI 5850s at the time of review.
2) For once I would like to turn on 8x+ Anti-aliasing without a huge performance hit. BF:BC2 was just annoying without proper AA.
3) I believe that Nvidia will further optimize their new forceware drivers for 400x series of cards to gain more performance margin over ATI 5850 for at least the high profile games.

Benchmark wise, we all know that GTX470 is about 10%->15% faster in some games compared to ATI 5850, and in others, the performance is neck to neck. So for those of you trying to make a decision between the two, ask yourself these questions :

1) Can you put up with extra 50Watt of peak power consumption.
2) Can you put up with the bit of extra fan noise when things get hot (my card temp reach 80+C during Crysis with 60% fan speed). Fan is really quiet in idle, and noticeable >60%. GPU core clock is speed stepped down when Idle, I'm assuming ATI has the same power saving modes.
3) Is 1) 2) worth the better performance with regards to AA and tessellation ?

I obviously thought it was worth it. Zotac has the lifetime warranty for this card, so don't worry about the fan being taxed, etc...

TroubleT's review is spot on, but if anything the amount of noise this card makes running at capacity is understated. It's also fat, long card that takes up 2 slots of room on the case (and a third at least to leave clearance for circulation around the fan), and many minitower cases may require moving drives around to clear room. The card stops just short of the framing that holds drives on small cases, leaving no room for the usual overhang that the drives have. The card is also larger than the height of a drive bay, so it will block two below the latitude of PCIe slot.

But, given that one has a set of headphones for audio isolation and enough room in the case, the card will handle pretty much anything one can currently throw at it and have streams to spare.

The item arrived in hand-written Priority Mail package. The plastic cover over card in the card's packaging was cracked. The card failed to respond in any way when installed in a PC. I contacted the vendor who was very unprofessional and uncooperative. I will never use that vendor again.
