WOW! An unforgettable, touching testimony...,

This book touched me in ways I had not expected. Zvi survived the atrocities of the holocaust and lived to tell the world what really happened. His life was nearly destroyed by Hitler's evil regime, but God had another plan in mind for the life of little Zvi. This book is a golden triumph!

Elwood McQuaid deserves credit for compiling Henryk Weichert's amazing and uplifting life story. It is a sad chronology of horrific events in the life of a ten-year old Jewish boy, in occupied Poland. To save their son from Nazi persecution, Henryk's mother dropped him off at an orphanage. From that moment Henryk never saw his mother and the rest of his family again. When the orphanage closed down he became homeless, a suffering wanderer. By hiding his Jewish identity, he managed to survive. He pulled through the war by begging, stealing and at times working as a farmers' hand, outside the Warsaw Ghetto.
When the WWII ended in may 1945, the killing centers in Poland and Germany could no longer murder innocent people. Survivors needed help to be revived. The narrated travails that Henryk had to endure, after the war, are illustrative of difficulties Holocaust survivors had been encountering after the liberation. This phenomenon is not common awareness. As a Holocaust survivor, I know how difficult it was to locate surviving family members, to find shelter or basic necessities. The Russian Army that liberated me told me:" you are liberated, but you are on your own." There were so many hurdles and obstacles on our path to recover from bondage, to heal our physical and mental scars to reinvigorate our emaciated bodies. For me, the Holocaust did not completely vanish with the end of the war. Distressful times have been lingering on. Like Henryk, ominous occurrences and phobias will continue to simmer in my mind till the end of my days. Holocaust survivors do not have to live with the past; the past lives within them. As McQuaid writes, the tattooed numbers on their forearms faded somewhat over the years, but the memories had not. While we may wear today nice suits we cannot forget the striped uniforms we had to wear in the concentration camps.

Zvi's story is a must-read,
This review is from: ZVI : The Miraculous Story of Triumph Over the Holocaust (Paperback)
My church has financially supported the Friends of Israel ministry for many years. Once, many years ago, Zvi actually visited my church. I was so young at the time, I really didn't appreciate his story. Now, after reading this book, I believe his story is the most amazing one I have ever read. A life marked by God's protection and grace! It is truly inspirational and educational. Plus, you get a mini-Israeli cultural and history lesson. Zvi becomes so real in this book, do yourself a favor and get to know him!

One of the Best Books You Will Ever Read!,
This review is from: ZVI : The Miraculous Story of Triumph Over the Holocaust (Paperback)
Over the years, I have read 100's of book reviews on Amazon, but this is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write one. Zvi is truly one of the best books I have read. His is one of the most awe inspiring stories I have ever encountered, and he is one of a very short list of people I wish I had the honor to meet in person. Elwood McQuaid wrote this in a simple yet magnificent fashion and his writing truly seemed divinely inspired. It was hard to put this book down. I am looking forward to sharing this wonderful book with family and friends! May God continue to bless Zvi and his family, as well as Mr. McQuaid for bringing this amazing and uplifting story to the world.

The amazing story of Henryk Weichert, a Polish-Jewish ten-year-old, who lost his entire family after the Nazis required them to move to the Warsaw ghetto (Henryk was dropped off at the orphanage right before they moved to the ghetto). Soon the orphanage closed down and he was on the street alone and he survived for several years masquerading as a non-Jewish Pole. He worked, stole and survived until the war was over and then for a time after that. He made his way to Israel and joined the military. He helped Israel become a nation in 1948 and participated in every war that came their way for the next 40+ years. When he first moved to Israel he changed his name to Zvi (the title). He became a Christian early during his years in Israel and the author shares many tales of his evangelistic efforts, raising his family in the face of persecution and surviving close calls with death. This was a book I couldn't put down.

I have followed ZVI for many years in my subscription of "Israel, My Glory" - in fact, I always skip to the back to read his latest entry first! To now know his story, and how the Holy Spirit drew him in in the most desparate of times is awe inspiring. I love the book!

A "Must Read" for Everyone,
This review is from: ZVI : The Miraculous Story of Triumph Over the Holocaust (Paperback)
Zvi is one of the best biographies I have ever read. Vivid pictures of his growing up in Poland, experiencing the holocaust as a child, being present at the rebirth of Israel and its subsequent wars, and coming to faith in and sharing Jesus Christ will hold their impression on me for a lifetime. Zvi is a "must read" for everyone.

I first read the story of Zvi Weichert when I was around 10 years old. Since then, I've read it many more times -- it's one of my favorite books! This man's story is simply amazing and full of action.
