5.0 out of 5 stars "The gastronomic Bible.", January 1, 2003
By
This review is from: Zagat New York City Restuarants (Zagat Survey: New York City Restaurants) (Paperback)
This book contains information and opinions from 25,922 surveyors about 1,924 restaurants in New York City. The restaurant directory is alphabetized and includes a small review about the place and it is rated for it's food, decor and service. The average price of dinner, a drink and a tip is mentioned, so you will have a general idea of how expensive the restaurant is. It also gives the restaurant's address and phone number.

Another nice thing about this book is that it's slender, so it would easily slip into your bag if you wanted to carry it around. In a city like New York, where there are many dining choices, "Zagat Survey 2003: New York City Restaurants" is an essential book for tourists and locals!

5.0 out of 5 stars What Real People Write About Real Restaurants, October 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Zagat New York City Restuarants (Zagat Survey: New York City Restaurants) (Paperback)
New Yorkers are the pickiest people in the world, with the possible exception of Parisians, when it come to restaurants. Buy this little book to get the best and most current opinions on NYC restaurants.

I live here, eat out all the time, and have never been disappointed by a Zagat review.

Even if you do not agree with the reviews (and I have yet to meet anyone who does not respect the work of the Zagats), the book is still useful for a telephone book of restaurants in NYC.

4.0 out of 5 stars Valuable Resource but slanted, August 28, 2003

Zagat Survey is a very valuable resource for locating good restaurants. It's well worth the investment to buy the book then guessing whether a particular restaurant is good or not. However, one criticism I have of Zagat's is that they are very biased toward French Restaurants or Frenchified restaurants. It seems that a Chinese restaurant that serves food in a Frenchified way gets a higher rating than one served in a more traditional setting. This is disappointing because each culture brings a different eating experience to the table.
