It does the job of peeling garlic, though not always on the first try.

It gets dirty fast because garlic peels sort of stick to the inside. It's very easy to clean, but then you lose the time savings which it was supposed to deliver. If you want to peel more than a couple of cloves, it's a big nuisance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Garlic Lovers Dream Tool, June 15, 2000

No more smashing cloves w/the side of a knife or any of the other tricks your mother and/or Italian friends taught you to get those pesky skins off. These garlic peelers really work, leaving the cloves intact, the odor off your fingers and they are fun. You simply place a clove or two inside the tube, roll it around and like magic, the skins roll off. A logical, pragmatic tool that belongs in every kitchen.

5.0 out of 5 stars the simplest tools are the best, April 28, 2000
By A Customer
It's hard to imagine that a rubber tube can be such a valuable kitchen tool, but I use this garlic peeler almost every night. You just pop your clove in it and roll it for 30 seconds and all the skin comes off. I used to crack the clove with the back of a spoon and then peel, but it doesn't always take all the skin off like this rolling tool does. This tool is a major timesaver!

And it's simply unnecessary. To peel garlic, put it down on the cutting board (or counter) and whack it with the flat side of any tool (I use whatever chef's knife or cleaver is sitting around, or even the bottom of a can). The peel will come right off.

5.0 out of 5 stars No More Grandma Hands, February 14, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Zak Designs E-Z-Rol Garlic Peeler, Blue (Kitchen)
Pros:
+ It works.
+ Your hands don't smell like grandma's
+ No more unintentional crushing
+ No dangerous knife-slapping

Cons:
- After about 4 large cloves, the 'garlic paper' sticks to the inside. (You can shake it out and keep going.)
- Not as sexy as slapping a big chef's knife
- Single-purpose gadget

I'v owned this for over a year and it is the best thing I have used to peel garlic. You can do 2 or 3 cloves at a time. Afer you roll the garlic the peels stick to the inside of the tube while the cloves fall out. Most of the time, if you are not too exuburant, the cloves will stay whole. whatever thats good for. My only minor dislike I have for it is after you've peeled several cloves, the garlic juices tend to make the inside a little slippery so it doesn't do as an expediant job at peeling. but a quick rinse usually solves that peeve of mine. I highly recommend this piece of kitchen gadgetry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smelly hands no more!, June 17, 2000
I was a skeptic. Now I am a believer. This is the neatest, easiest cooking tool I have ever used. It belongs in every garlic lover's kitchen. You put the clove of garlic into the E-Z Roll and roll 2 or 3 times on a surface. Presto... Your garlic is ready to be cut, diced, shredded... you name it. This makes a great gift too!

5.0 out of 5 stars So Simple, Wish I'd Thought of it!, February 1, 2004
This review is from: Zak Designs E-Z-Rol Garlic Peeler, Blue (Kitchen)
I cook a lot of Italian food and am a garlic-lover, so I spent a lot of time peeling garlic cloves with my fingernails or trying various techniques like pressing the clove with the side of a knife (which sometimes sorta worked, kinda.) I found myself looking at this product frequently and pondering a purchase with a mixture of covetousness and skepticism. I had a hard time believing it would work much better than the so-so side-of-knife trick, and the price seemed steep for a piece of hollow rubber! (I confess to having considered cutting off a hunk of garden hose and seeing if that would work!) Finally my agonizing purchase decision was taken out of my hands when I was given one of these as a gift --- whew! :-) And now I wonder how I ever put up with life without it! Especially when I make marinara sauce, which calls for 8-10 cloves of minced garlic. This makes the time-consuming, odious chore of peeling all those cloves quick and easy. After a few cloves, the inside gets a bit sticky with garlic oil and the skins stick to it, so I just give it a quick rinse and am good to go for the next round of garlic-peeling. I still think the price is steep on an item that's just a rubber cylinder (and still catch myself wondering about the garden hose idea!), but if you peel a lot of garlic or peel garlic frequently, you'll find this item very, very useful, and consider it money well spent - or a gift that's much appreciated!

5.0 out of 5 stars Believe it, August 6, 2000

I got one of these at Trader Joes about a year ago and it's become one of my favorite tools. Seems gimicky but it's not. Try it. I have been looking for them to buy for friends and haven't been able to find any, I was very glad to see them here. You will love this thing. Great for showing off in the kitchen.

I often use fresh garlic in my cooking, and have never really enjoyed having to peel it, before I got this garlic peeler.

With this little tool, you don't have to pick the little papery outer shell bits out of each clove, one by one, as you do when you smash a clove of garlic with the side of a chef's knife, and it's infinitely easier than peeling a clove of garlic with a paring knife.

Clean up couldn't be easier, either. Just rinse it under the tap, and stand it up on a peg in the dishwasher.

This garlic peeler is such a simple idea that you will ask yourself, "Why didn't I think of that?" It makes peeling garlic extremely simple and easy.

Cooking can be very creative. Why not make one of the more tedious parts of the process a whole lot more fun?
