I'm definitely building this brand again.

If you need a graphics card cooler that can fit on a wide variety of makes-and-models of graphics card, this heatsink suits the task quite well.

This cooler is fantastic. The build quality is very very good, and it dropped the temperature of my ATI Radeon 4850 video card from 70C down to 36C.
It's also whisper quiet.

I'm definitely building this brand again.

Installation was very easy. One word of warning: you should buy the heat sink paste cleaner kit and clean the old paste really well, on both the graphic chip as well as the memory chips (the latter will be cooled by the small aluminum heat sinks which come with this product).
I bought the Arctic cleaning solutions for that. Quite often people also buy the Arctic Silver heat-conducting paste. I just used the zinc paste which came with the product and I didn't have any troubles with it.

This GPU cooler is amazing. Dropped my temps by ~10c instantly. This cooler has turned me into a Zalman fan. The cooler is quite and kicks the crap out of the stock cooler. Definitely worth the money. I have the xfx 7900GS XXX

600M and it cools it to ~38-39c with ambient temp of 24c(room temp in home)

once I turn my AC on, no telling how low it will drop.

I purchases this because I wanted something quiet, effective and not too large. This definitely accomplishes all those for my 7950GT even with the fan speed turned up to just about 1/3. It may struggle with some of the hotter cards but it cools mine very effectively.

Installation is a snap, although I did remove the adhesive thermal tape on the ramsinks and used Arctic Silver thermal epoxy instead. It does not appear to report fan speeds very well to my motherboard but this isn't a very big concern and could just be a defect with mine.

Was worried that the 9x series chip from NVidia might not fit this, but it fit my NVidia 9500 GS video card easily. The built in fan was really loud and kept making awful noises. It came with an HP Pavilion Elite PC. I have two of these machines and both of the video card fans were really loud. After installing the cooler they now actually run almost 10C cooler, and even under full load are almost silent compared the the beasts that were on the cards before.

Instructions are pretty simple. Look at the diagrams and take them one step at a time. Thermal paste was included in the box, so that is another plus to me.

Nobody will ever claim that a Zalman cooler is pretty, nope this is one of those ugly pieces of technology. On the other hand, this cooler does a great job of cooling with virtually no noise. The cooling is amazing - stock very loud cooler, folding at home running 85 degress C, with some really horrible fan noises. The first day of the Zalman cooler, 75 degrees on the highest fan setting. Just outstanding. Construction is rock solid on this. The GPU contact plate (where heat transfer occurrs) is mirror shiny copper - kudos Zalman for a job very well done!

February 21, 2009 Update. After a week it seemed like the cooler wasn't doing it's job (the 8800GT was up to 80-85 degrees C). I ordered some MosFet heat sinks. And sent an email off to Zalman. Didn't hear anything for a long time. The MosFet heat sinks didn't help. Then at three weeks I sent another note to Zalman. This time, almost immediate response that this cooler is not compatible with the 8800 series of video cards. Well it took about two weeks, and Zalman made good on their product. They swapped this cooler for a VF1000 - the correct cooler for the 8800 series.

I have to give Zalman huge thanks for standing behind their product, and getting me exactly what I needed. Thank You Zalman. Customer Service does really exist.

And one addition to the installation instructions - after you remove the original heat sink from the memory modules - clean them with alcohol and a cotton swab. When they are dry, rub a pencil eraser over each one. This will roughen up the finish a little bit and give those purple heat sinks with adhesive some bite.

Back to the Original Review:
This is not a hugely complex job, but you do need a bit of careful reading and work slowly.

I used this cooler to replace a stock fan on an ASUS EN9800GT/HTDP/512MD3 GeForce 9800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card. The Asus fan was too noisy for me. The Zalman VF900-Cu cooler significantly brought down noise levels. A fan speed controller allows fine-tuning of the noise/cooling ratios. Initially, I was a bit skeptical of the fan controller, but I've come to appreciate it. The best thing about this fan is that it's very compact, and allows SLI configurations in side-by-side PCI2 slots. This isn't possible with the Zalman VF700-Cu Copper Ultra-Quiet VGA Video Card Cooler. I have installed both the VF700-Cu and VP900-Cu and the VF700 seems quieter at stock speeds; but with the fan speed controller, the VF900 is the quietest. Both Zalman coolers kept my EN9800GT at 36 degrees Celsius.

Pros:
- Easy installation
- Compact design, compatible with SLI configurations
- Very quiet
- Good cable length
- Use of speed controller is optional
- The heat pipe design is very effective

Cons:
- Expensive, relative to the cost of a fast video card

Would I purchase this again? Yes, and the VF900 is better than the VF700 due to it's smaller size and variable speed controller.
