Pure Surround sound. Audio is great.
Microphone is cheap and should have made it a boom mic. The microphone does not pickup from its location on the Cords. also doesnt have a seperate volume adjustment so you have to use the volume control with in windows or the game itself. Again great sound from the speakers and isnt too bulky.

Outstanding Price to Performance,
This review is from: Zalman ZM-RS6FM Virtual 5.1-channel stereo headphones with microphone (Electronics)
I have been using this headset for 5 years now.Pros: Great sound in the given freq ranges, good for music and games, with above average noise isolation. Comfy for moderate use. Outstanding when used in conjunction with a hardware 3D sound card (5 of my last 6 sound cards have been Creative Labs mid to high end sound cards). It took 3 years of regular wear before the ear cushion started showing wear and tear. After 5 years it is still in good enough condition to use regularly, just not in pristine condition, as one edge of the cushion wrap/support material has flaked off. The cushion remains firmly held to the headset Cons: Medium weight on the head and around ears leads to needing to take them off after 5-6 hours. I have had to go into the sound cards 3D environmental map properties and shift audio 3 to 5% to the rear to get the BEST feel for the surround effect in games. Otherwise the default setup makes the forward and center speakers too punchy and you don't always notice in game when someone is coming at you from the rear. Don't support Ultra low freqs, ultra high freqs for true musician audiophiles. No Headphone microphone. Other Thoughts: These headphones beg for a dedicated sound card (not the one built into your motherboard!) with game capable rendering of 3D environments in real time, 24bit 96kHz sound. Shift back and forth in game from the built in sound card typically 7.1 channel or better to a discrete sound card such as Creative Labs X-Fi Extreme or better and you will truly NOTICE IT IN GAME. In my experience emulated 3D sound does NOT truly stand up to hardware accelerated gaming 3D sound for accuracy of environment and sound fidelity; in addition the true multispeaker headphone is critical. Having the true 3 or more speakers per side of your head with full ear coverage noise isolation on the human side of things dramatically improves speed and accuracy in determining where the sound is coming from. Yes, I am a FPS gamer ;P After 4 years, my daughter dropped them from a height of about 2.5 ft, and the center channel right ear stopped working. They still sound great however, I just remapped the 5.1 audio to 4 channel surround. I will be replacing them shortly, maybe even with the same model. Excellent price/performance!

Very good sound. I can definitely notice the surround sound. But after about eight months they started falling apart. They are not put together very sturdy so you have to be very gentle with them. The microphone is horrible... do not use it for speech recognition. I guess for anything else it would be fine.
They are also pretty heavy... but amazingly you don't really notice it when it's on your head. Definitely a must have for the sound alone! Games and movies sound absolutely perfect. Music sounds extremely good also, but the bass isn't anything great... but it is pretty decent for headphones.

I have been using these headphones for about 5 years now. The sound is excellent. They are a fantastic alternative to a 5 speaker surround sound system. I have had one instance of hissing with these headphones, and it was faulty sound hardware on the computer, the headphones were fine. My one and only complaint, is that these headphones are a tad structurally weak. They do not handle abuse well, so you will need to take care of them. However, for the price and quality these are second to none.

Best headset available for the price,

You can't go wrong. True 5.1 surround headset. Great for gaming. Most of the people I game with use the Zalman 5.1 headset and wouldn't use any other.

Good Sound, Poor filtering,

These headphones have a great sound. Unfortunately you really need to buy line level filters as you can, when there isn't anything playing through them, hear a hissing sound and noises anytime your computer accesses the Hard Drive. Unfortunately these line level filters will end up costing you more than the headphones do, so it is really too bad.
If it weren't for that issue, these would be awesome headphones. So, if you have something playing through them all the time you won't notice the noise, but you will as soon as it gets quiet.

If you're looking for a great sounding pair of surround sound headphones then look no farther, you've found them. The sound quality is excellent for any activity from gaming to watching movies to my favorite, listening to music. They are very comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. For a set of surround sound headphones in the $50.00 USD and under price range these can't be beat.
Pros * 1.Great sound quality * 2. Comfortable * 3. Long cord * 4. Cable clips for the microphone * 5. Excellent Price Cons * Absolutely None.

After reading several glowing reviews on the web I decided that this would be perfect for my gaming needs.
Boy was I wrong, the first thing I noticed was how ugly they looked, extremely big and clunky. Secondly NO inline sound control (which I knew already) is a huge negative if youre a gamer or listen to music. Now the worst part, the sound quality was garbage. Very weak and very low, not that much bass even after fidgeting with the equalizer. Sometimes sounds would echo which ruins the experience. Im returning these as we speak, very disappointed indeed. Save yourself the money and get regular stereo headphones instead. |
