It is the fruit fair at the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. At this time beautiful Lupe is wooed by an out-of-towner sailor Juancho by native Tehuntepec Ram n and by the elderly Don Atanasio. Lupe corresponds to the sailor but he must leave for a period of time. Since Juancho never comes back Lupe accepts Ram n promising she ll marry him. All of the sudden the sailor is back. Ram n understand that the young lady is in love with the sailor. Sadly he lets go of her. This movie is very important for many reasons. It is the first Lupe Vélez movie in México after a very long career in the United States, it is the debut as an extra of Mr. Ernesto Alonso, who would later become a very important person in the telenovela world in México's television, and uncredited, Lucha María Bautista (Chucho el roto, Corazón bandolero, Los desheredados, Novillero), whose career was cut short after her marriage to one of the performers of the Trío Martínez-Gil...
The cast is superb, the story is good and the costumes are fantastic! The tehuana dresses and marriage tradition are portrayed here with life-like realism. María Luisa Zea (showing a little skin before censorship kicked in in the late 40s), Joaquín Pardavé, Arturo de Córdova, Conchita Gentil Arcos, are just a few among the excellent performers in this movie! Highly dramatic, Vélez adds a light and funny touch that just enhances the whole experience of watching this movie... Unmissable!

Interesante pelicula, que muestra las antiguas costumbres y arraigos del Mexico de nuestros abuelos,tambien denota la desnutricion y pobre vestimenta que era "normal y comun" en esos tiempos ( Lupe Velez era prima de mi abuelo paterno:Felipe A.Colunga Velez.
