A pleasant and light-hearted love story,
By Rose Chastain (www.aromancereview.com) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zane: The Wild One (Silhouette Desire) (Paperback)
Julia Goodwin has always been a `Good Girl' in the eyes of the people in Plenty. She is the younger daughter of the Mayor and has an elder sister, Chantal, who's mission is to marry Julia off. Julia has been married once but her marriage was a failure. She doesn't want much in her life, just a husband, a home, a baby and continue to be the `Good Girl' everyone knows. But everything changes when she meets the `Bad Boy', Zane O'Sullivan after all these years. Zane O'Sullivan has been in and out of Plenty most of his life. He is a good machinery mechanic and lives wherever he works but he always comes back to help Bill, the man who owns the only tow truck in Plenty, whenever he has a few days off from his work. He hates Plenty because of some old memories there and would never return if not for the sake of Bill, who has helped him when Zane was in trouble in his younger days. Zane doesn't seem to be Mr Right for Julia, but opposite attract. On her way to Chantal's party, Julia's car breaks down and needs to be towed. Zane is in town to help Bill so he shows up on the scene with the tow truck. Julie and Zane have a hard time keeping their eyes off each other, and conversation starts naturally between them during the drive back to Julia's house. There, an offer for a thank you drink for Zane starts a new relationship.

book description,

Everything Julia Goodwin ever wanted was right here in the quiet little town of Plenty. At least, that was what she thought, until wrong-side-of-the-tracks rebel Zane O'Sullivan came home- and rocked her peaceful world to its foundations.... Yet this wasn't the same black-leather-and-denim bad boy who'd haunted a well-brought-up girl's dreams back in high school. This Zane O'Sullivan was very much a man, with a raw sensual power that tempted Julia's deepest desires- and an unsuspected vulnerability that touched her woman's heart.... But what would become of their growing love when he learned about the child their out-of-control passion had brought into being...?

Apparently I read a different book,

Girl (Julia) lusts after her friend's brother, (Zane) for years. When Zane is injured he tries to contact his sister to help him. Instead, Julia picks him up and takes him to her house so she can nurse him back to health. Considering he had a broken leg he didn't have a lot of choices which is pretty much the tenor of their whole relationship.
They have sex, she gets pregnant. In fairness to Julia she didn't do this on purpose but is thrilled and has no problem using it to her advantage. When she tells Zane, who pointed out they used condoms, she spouts off a bunch of statistics about the 2% failure rate of condoms to begin with, and higher if they're not put on properly, etc. Zane, having little choice since she is his sister's friend, tells her they're getting married. She says, "All right we'll get married if that's what you want." He says, "It's not particularly." Wow, there's a wonderful way to start a marriage. Zane leaves to close up his old place, pack, quit his job and start looking for a place to live. He doesn't contact Julia, or anyone, for five weeks during which time she has no way to get hold of him. Sure shows how eager he is to marry her. While he's gone Julia decides that they're going to live in her house, in the town he hates. She decides where he's going to work, meets with the owner of the business and reviews the books. "Is this the way our marriage is going to be Julia? You making decisions that affect us both, then going behind my back to set them in motion?" Zane has no choices left in his life. He's forced into being a husband and father, living somewhere he hates and doing the job she's found for him. I imagine she will choose where they go on their honeymoon, the baby's name, where they shop, what they watch on TV, etc. End of the book: "Mission-Marriage--successful". I definitely do not recommend this book! |
