1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
This was given to me by the curriculum director of the school I teach at as a good book for "at-risk" youth. I really disliked this book. It almost tries too hard to be edgy enough for this group but still "safe" enough to use in a school. Any "normal" at risk student will see right through the author's attempt. There is far better stuff out there.

High-Schooler Zane comes from an unconventional and tragedy-riddled family. After he becomes convinced that crossing out a picture of his grandfather actually caused him to die, Zane steals his dead father's Baracuda, determined to kill himself at his mother's grave in Zanesville, Ohio. There is a lot of drama in this book, and almost every character has a dark (verging on melodramatic) secret. What saves it from sinking into that genre is the appearance of several of Zane's most influential dead relatives (including a great great great great grandmother who saved a Fort and a Native American brave who tried to shoot her). In the end, Zane makes a tough decision, there are unexpected twists, and the author even includes background information on the historical characters of the novel. This is an excellent novel that teens and adults will really get into!

4.0 out of 5 stars Time trip as well as a road trip, March 14, 2009

I felt like I was riding in the front seat with Zane and Libba. An emotional journey for the reader as well as for Zane. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, December 26, 2010
This review is from: Zane's Trace (Hardcover)
I read this book in a day, perfect for a high-school student, but make sure to keep a happy mind-set throughout because it is a very depressing book. I was kind of upset that is was so short, very good read. I recommend this book to anyone over 14, also, it is a pretty easy read. Loved it, and I'm not a big reader at all.
