Urushiol is the toxin known to cause the itching and rash associated with poison ivy, oak, sumac, poisonwood, and related plants. Zanfel works by surrounding urushiol and bonding with it, thereby enabling it to be rinsed away. Unlike some products that require use within 10-20 minutes of contact or that require continued use until the rash is gone (which can take up to 5 weeks), Zanfel offers relief at any stage of the reaction and often with only one wash. Individuals with particularly severe reactions may require additional washes. Most individuals experience relief from the itching within 30 seconds of application. The rash will begin to subside within hours if the reaction is mild to moderate.Safe to use during pregnancy. Safe for children. Safe for the face and genitals.There are no known side effects.INGREDIENTS:Polyethylene Granules, Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate, Nonoxynol-9, C12-15 Pareth-9, Disodium EDTA, Quaternium-15, Carbomer 2%, Triethanolamine, Water.DIRECTIONS:Zanfel is easy to use: (The following directions are for an area the size of an adult hand.)For best results, use Zanfel in a shower or sink where it is easy to thoroughly rinse off the product.Wet the affected area.Squeeze 1 and 1/2 inches (no less; see ruler on package back) of Zanfel onto one palm, wet both hands, and rub the product into a paste. (This will properly prepare the formula prior to washing the affected area.) Do not bypass or modify this step. Rub both hands on the affected area, working Zanfel into the skin until there is no sign of itching.

Expensive but worth it.,

You pay a lot for a small amount; the directions claim it'll treat an area the size of your face about 15 times.
I was recently covered with poison ivy and a friend recommended this stuff to me after I had spent about a week trying to deal with it with calamine lotion type treatments. By this point my arms and legs were covered, and by using per directions I was able to get two treatments out of one tube. The upside is, not only did it work immediately, but it got rid of 80% of the poison ivy the first time around. Whatever was left I was able to finish off with the rest of the tube. The treatment itself is simply and straight forward. You rub the compound (which has a grit to it, like tiny sand particles, for deep cleaning), into the infected area for 30 seconds to 3 minutes. This pulls the poison (urushiol) out of the skin which then you rinse off. After that, the itching is gone, any blisters eventually go away, etc. etc. I've also found that a few trips to heavily chlorinated pools tend to get rid of poison ivy too.

I bought Zanfel from their website when it available ONLY there--before it was marketed anywhere because my son had gotten a horrible case of poison ivy. It cost $50 at the time. But I was desperate for some relief for him. It worked beautifully. This stuff is wonderful. What a relief to have an alternative to days and weeks of torment!

This stuff knocks out poison ivy within a couple of days with one catch - you must use it as directed on the label. It's expensive, and has an abrasive ingredient which is a little strange, but it really works well when used correctly. I get poison ivy terribly, and this kept me from being tormented for weeks. A doctor friend recommended this and it was tremendous advice.
