From School Library Journal
Gr 2-5-An appealing, creative collection of activity ideas. Six chapters, each beginning with a poem pulsating with rhythm and energy, offer suggestions for games, arts and crafts, recipes, and projects. Each one is explained in a brief paragraph and has a list of supplies and steps. Entries include versions of bowling and football; a scavenger hunt; creative writing and storytelling; singing; role-playing; puppetry; and making a couch fort, biscuits for a dog, a frame, and a beanbag. Symbols noting time length and difficulty level of each activity are given. A comprehensive list of "Rainy-Day Tools," most of which are readily available or easily attainable, is provided along with safety tips in the front of the volume. The animated text speaks directly to children and the overall design of the book is excellent. Clear color photos and drawings, lots of white space and bright backgrounds, and varying layouts and fonts make this an engaging book. Only two misspellings mar this delightful presentation that will brighten any rainy day.
