This is a good educational product. It is a good map of the world and seems engaging to the young people who use it. This is a good educational product. It is a good map of the world and seems engaging to the young people who use it. The activities include quizzes about countries, learning languages, capitals, landmarks, flags and other interesting facts about countries. The map shows all of the countries' flags and capitals.

My biggest critique is that the sound is difficult to hear and it does not have headphone options. If there is any background noise, I have not been able to understand what it is saying. I think the durability is also questionable. It's use requires it to recognize pressing buttons for each country.

At this price, I would hope it would be long lasting.

Just some background - this review is from my personal/adult opinion. I accidentally ordered this and realized this was too old for my kids.

As the description states, there are tons of countries, capitals, flags and other trivial facts available in this little gizmo. You can press on the country and it will tell you about it. You can press on another button, and it will start telling you which flag is which. I like how it has the ability for "two players" to play a trivia game, or, just one person can answer the questions. Either your kids can play on their own, or, perhaps you could use this on a Friday night instead of a board game.

A couple of things that would make it better:
-clearer speach/speaker - most of the time I can understand, but sometimes I can't (contributed to one star loss on ranking)
-ability to press on flag - like the countries, I would like to press on a flag and it tell me what it is. If it has the ability, I've overlooked it.

The map is pretty sizable. If you are laying it down, you'll need to do so on a hard surface (hard floor or a big table) - this will not work on carpet and probably not a bed. I haven't tried pinning it up on a wall. I'm not really sure how durable it is. I think it might last a while based on older kids using it and not abusing it.

My review is based on the product itself and does not consider the price. I think this can be a neat educational toy/item, but, I think you need to really think about the recipient and their family prior to the purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars At Almost $50 This Is A Rather Spendy Toy, October 2, 2010

First of all I want to say that this product is definitely a children's toy recommended for ages six and up I have no idea how it ended up under office supplies initially. As to how much fun the toy is? For a child who loves maps, learning facts and playing by themselves likely lots of fun and I know those kids are out there as to a certain extent I was one myself. But for the child who only loves sports, outdoor activities or video games not too much fun. The educational value of the toy is great and I think just having a world map around the house is excellent for getting kids interested in geography and the world around them and this product has many more features than a regular map. I can see it being used by home schoolers who want their child to have a strong grounding in geography or in regular elementary or middle school classes where maps and world geography are a focus. As to the durability I can only say in our house it wouldn't last that long though we tend to be rougher than average on our belongings. If spending close to $50 on a toy I want it to be durable or one of a child's very favorite things that will last for years and I'm not sure this item would meet that criteria for many of the children I know.

We purchased this map for our children ages 7 and 9. It is a fabulous idea. My kids are learning about all sorts of places around the world and it is peaking their interest in geography. I bought it at about 75% off. For the original price, this is NOT worth it. At the price I paid, it is. The quality is a bit lacking - was hoping for a "stiffer" type map that was laminated - not a flimsy one. Also, the voice is VERY hard to understand. So, the kids have a very hard time finding the country since they cannot even understand the voice. Overall, it is a great idea, just needs to be improved.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Educational Toy for Four and Five Year Olds, October 4, 2010

At first I thought this was going to be a tough item to review. Certainly, I couldn't sit down and play with it and write what I thought, because, well because I already know most, if not all, of the world's countries. I actually wanted to get this for my nephew, but he's eight and I don't think he's smarter than all the other kids in his class and he turned his nose up at this map. Of course, he plays Halo and loads of other video games, like most kids his age I'd imagine. So when they say this map is for ages six and up, I think they should be saying, six and not up.

So, I wound up giving this to the little four-year-old boy who follows my nephew around. He loves it, really loves it. He has an older sister, who is nine and she helps him when he can't pronounce something or doesn't understand something. After watching them play with this a couple times I think I'd revise the ages this toy is suited for to between four and six.

But other than the age thing, I do think this is a very educational map or toy, whichever you prefer to call it. I've seen how it captivates that four-year-old boy and how his older sister enjoys helping him with it, almost like she's a teacher. Before this, they didn't play together much, probably because of the five year age difference.

So, four stars from me. I would have giving it five, but I think it's a bit spendy and if I was a parent who shelled out half a C note for a game my eight-year-old, Halo playing son would scoff at, I'd be a little cheesed off. Four and five year olds, that's the right age for this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what we hoped for, March 20, 2011

This map is a great idea that was executed poorly. At the very least, all countries big enough to put a thumb on should say their name when pressed, and a child ought to be able to press anywhere on a country to hear the name, not just a tiny star representing the location of the capitals. Made mistakes too, at least within Hungary.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This large package contains a 27 x 20" nice map of the world and can have your child learning while playing. The map is hung on the wall. It provides numerous animal facts, and a quiz mode to test the child's memory of what they have learned. It is loaded with animal pictures, sure to be enjoyed by even the younger children. It seems to hold the child's attention. The important information provided by this "toy" makes it valuable. The suggested sales price for Interactive Map World Talking Map is a little on the pricey side, but we have spent more money on children's toys that have far less educational value for our children.

Bought this for my daughter for Christmas. Just layed it out flat on the table and tried to play it last night and it seemed to work for a bit and then the audio would break into horrible static.
