A Funk Legend That Will Be Forever Missed,
By Gary McAfee (Newark, Ohio USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zapp II (Audio CD)
I've been listoning to Zapp since "More Bounce" and have beenhooked since. But this album will remain my favorite. I am a true funkaholic and this album is truly his funkiest from Roger's trademark talkbox down to the skill of the entire band. This album explores many different facet's of music, Funk, Jazz and R&B. I reccomend this album to all who truly enjoy funk!! BUT if your just starting out to get into Zapp I warn you once you start you can't stop. R.I.P Roger!!!!!!!

A Phenomanal Funk Visitation!,

This review is from: Zapp II (Audio CD)
Too bad Roger Troutman is no longer with us because herewith Zapp he was able to fasion an album in the 1980's that was 100% uptempo funk-same as Parliament had done eight years earlier on "Mothership Connection" but with a new twist.Rogers vocorder singing, the bands red-hot bluesy style with "Dance Floor", "Playin' It Kinda' Ruff", and "Come On" invoking a general hard James Brown meets synth funk vibe while "Doo Waa Ditty" and the poppy "Do You really Want An Answer" add catchy hooks and melodies to the affair, topping it all off with a repirse of "Ruff".A veritable colossus and (for funk snobs) about the closest thing outside of George Clinton to pure funk during the early 80's.

Zapp Pow!!!,
This review is from: Zapp II (Audio CD)
Finally received my copy of this CD today and it just sounds absolutely fantastic! I knew only a couple of the tracks well before I purchased the album. I even used the music sampler to listen to all tracks before purchasing. However, the sampler does not do ANY of the tracks (even the lesser known tracks) any justice whatsoever. The album sounds as fresh as anything contemporary. If you were ever undecided in buying this album for the first time, or to replace a long lost copy...don't delay. Buy this album. It will surely brighten up your day. Love it, love it love it.

Solid from beggining to end,
By Don J. Harper (Landover Hills, MD) - See all my reviews

I can remember when I was stationed in Okinawa, we would listen to this L.P. and say, "Dam...they went into the studio and did not stop jamming until the next day!" This was some kind of album. Over shadowed by releases from Michael Jackson's Thriller, and George Clinton's own Computer Games. This album was definitely the best release under the "Zapp" name. There is one song that stands out in my mind that was never released as a single and would have done very well as a single. "Come On", this song was great. Why Roger and Zapp wanted to stick with the Voice Box on each and every single in future years is still a mystery to me. But it is a must buy for true funk fans. Not a bad song what so ever from the entire production.

Music For My Soul,
By Patsy Wilburn (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zapp II (Audio CD)
I have rated this item 5 stars. I grew up listening to this great artist or group Zapp, with the late lead singer Mr. Roger Trotman. I love these songs, they are music to my soul and heart. I consider this my old school jams, I could never get enough of More Bounce To the Ounce, oh, How I can Hear It Through the Grapevine, it makes me want to Doo Wah Ditty, until it gets so Ruff and So Tuff, as it plays Kinda Ruff on and on so we can Come on to this groove. So, as I share this musical trend with all of the people out there who can relate to music as I love it for my soul, I hope you all can feel me, and continue to enjoy old school jamzs, as I do, and I rate any music that they love, or have in their collections as 5 stars or more. Thank you. I love you Roger, and yes you are a legend in my book, which truly is missed.
Patsy Wilburn.

ZAPPED FROM THE MEMOSPHERE?,
By DJK (Amsterdam) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zapp II (Audio CD)
Seems like Zapp got zapped from our collective musical memories...which seems unfair to me. If you're looking for a frighteningly tight funk soul sound with a live feel to it... a live feel but without sacrificing melody...this is the real stuff. If you're looking for a band at the peak of its powers...go for this brilliant and sizzling record.

This album and their first are great additions to any funkaholic's collection. Roger Troutman will be sorely missed. His use of the voice box was masterful and really added to Zapp's identifiable sound. Both albums have great, funky, danceable tunes. My band (Sonny Boy, out of Long Beach, CA) just opened a show for Zapp in Santa Ana and they put on one hell of a show! Get their first two albums (at least) and go check them out live. Roger is gone, but the current Zapp line-up has stayed faithful to the funk. You won't be disappointed.
