Editorial Reviews

This video is part of my personal collection and I've owned it since it was new. There is some minor wear in the lower corner on the front of the slip case, but otherwise is in excellent condition. This video has never been released on DVD adding to it's collectibility.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute *MUST* For Any ZAPPA fan!, December 7, 1999

This review is from: Zappa's Universe [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I bought this video a couple of years ago when it first came out. I've watched it a hundred times and have shown it to a bunch of my friends, islanders, and people who have never heard of Frank Zappa. No matter what kind of musical tastes they had, they were absorbed into this video. Mike Keneally, and the rest of the band, are amazing musicians, but must have rehearsed for weeks on end to get that tight! Considering this was only a two night gig, not to mention the complexity of Frank's music. I would have given anything to be present at the rehearsals with the orchestra, which blends magically with the rock band. As if that were'nt enough, it ends with a couple of inspired performances from Dweezil, Steve Via and Mike who rip the place apart. If you like prodigous rock guitarists, and musicians of every talent, you have to own this video. It's a fitting and entertaning tribute to Frank, who is missed very much.

Excellent performances, no mistakes. One hour an a half of pure Zappa, in its best. Funny too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Frank would have loved it, March 8, 2003
This review is from: Zappa's Universe [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The Persuasions,(an a cappella band Frank Zappa gave a record deal to, from hearing them over the phone) play The Meek shal Inherit Nothing.

The ever stylish Rockapella (formerly from the PBS gameshow Where in the World is Carmen SanDiego) perform Heavenly Bank Account.

Needless to say this is a wicked concert.
