As someone who only speaks/understands English and rudimentary Spanish, it may seem odd to some that I am absolutely in love with this album. However, beautiful music is universal, and Zaz creates beautiful music.

At times she reminds me of a stripped down Edith Piaf or Amy Winehouse due to the drama and emotion in her voice, and at times like Pink Martini. As I don't understand the lyrics, I find it interesting that almost all of the songs still evoke either a mental image or mood. Zaz manages to hit this very tricky balance of incorporating traditional French sounds (like accordions) into very cool 21st century music. It makes this album somehow nostalgic and yet fresh and exciting at the same time. I also think Zaz's exceptionally smooth vocals stand mentioning. Her voice is simply pleasant and comforting to listen to. Her music in general is a mixture of upbeat folk and jazz.

My favorite songs on the album are the single "Je veux" (an upbeat jazzy little ditty which is how Zaz first caught my attention) and "Eblouie par la nuit" (which almost makes me cry because of the emotion in Zaz's voice).

I can't recommend this album enough--especially if you listen to music in other languages frequently and/or enjoy chill hipsterish music.

Read an article about this gal being a modern "Edith Piaf" and boy were they not far off. Zaz can SING...big time...a very nice jazzy, big band-ish, bluesy, folky blend. Powerful, expressive, and emotive articulation with skilled vocal control that she makes seem too easy. That combined with that smoky colored timbre of her voice is just amazing.

I actually bought this for my wife who's a big "Edit Piaf" fan, and I was kind of surprised by how much I liked it. YES, shockingly she sings in French, most likely because she IS French. Mixed with mostly simple instrumentation (acoustic guitar, contrabass, accordion, etc) this REALLY makes for an enjoyable and energetic listen.

Doesn't matter if vous parlez français or not, because after listening to this for a couple weeks, you'll probably be singing LOUDLY in mangled French as you bop around the house doing whatever...the music is seriously just that infectious. Check her out on You Tube...that's what convinced me she was worth the one-click.

This ch is a surprise. You know when you buy cd from favorite singer, and it turns out it has 2-3 good songs you end up listening? This one is nothing like that, you just need to listen it all, over and over again!

Soulful, fun, peppy, romantical. I don't know a word she's saying, but you don't need to hear the words because you can hear the emotions ripping through each track.

This is one of my favorite albums, definitely great for when you need to step back and remember to enjoy the life you're living.

The cover photo shows a rather edgy young woman with her name graffitied on the wall next to her. I expected the music to be somewhat raw. However, for the most part this is a nice cabaret performance. I am trying to work on my French, and Zaz actually sings slowly and clearly enough that I can sort of understand what she is singing about. She has a great voice, definitely reminiscent of Edith Piaf.

It's mostly pretty easygoing stuff. However, she really belts the last track with a ton of passion. I'm definitely going to work on the translation for that one.

Often CDs by foreign artists do not seem very accessible. This one travels very well across the pond. The tunes have gotten stuck in my head. I like it!

I will not write a huge review but simply say- I heard a few of the songs while in a cafe in Istanbul the other week. Instant attraction! I bought the album and have listened to it a few times since. It is good all the way through. I look forward to future albums.

Zaz's voice is a wee bit reminiscent of Piaf's, but her jazzy, quirky style and range go beyond that. I really wish she were getting more press!
