This review is from: Ze Volume 3 (Yaoi) (Paperback)
I was a bit skeptical about reading this at first---I've read plenty of yaoi, but I wasn't sure if I would be into the storyline. I hadn't read any of the previous volumes, but I had no trouble getting into it. Everything is explained, so it isn't a problem if you skip out on the first part of the series.
First off, the story is good. There is plot to go with the sex. And there is a lot of sex. A lot of noncon sex. Himi and Genma are the cookie cut-outs for yaoi characters. You've got the submissive, apologetic Himi, and the overbearing, cold Genma. I expected it from reading the description, but I'm putting it out there. If you're looking for really original characters this probably isn't the story for you. The plot, however, is very original, and definitely makes the book memorable instead of forgettable.
The negatives are that, well, it's too short. I felt like it was a little rushed, perhaps. I would have liked it much better had we gotten the opportunity to spend more time with the characters to get to know them better. I think that would have given the book more impact than it had, particularly in regards to the way it ended.
The positives: the sex scenes were throughout the book, and weren't disappointing. You felt for Himi, but you also recognized that Genma wasn't all bad, and that he was obsessed with having Himi for himself. It was that twisted kind of love you'd expect from yaoi with noncon. The story was what made Himi and Genma's relationship that much more interesting. They more or less were tied to one another, and Genma needed Himi and in a way, vice versa.
Over all, not a bad manga. It's definitely not for everyone, and has its flaws, but it still has enough to it to make for an interesting read.

The best volume in this yaoi (m/m) series so far, and the sexiest!!, September 21, 2009
This review is from: Ze Volume 3 (Yaoi) (Paperback)
Finally, my favorite volume in this series arrived, and of course, with my favorite Ze's couple!
Volume 3 introduces a new couple, Genma and Himi (both are shown on this book's cover). Genma inherits the "paper doll" (kami), Himi, from his estranged father. He's described as a "dishonest realtor", tough, quick to act, passionate and somewhat cruel. As father threw his mom and him in early childhood from their home, he hated his father, and at first it seems that this hatred was passed also to his "inheritance", Himi, whom he quite cruelly subdues at first. Frequent non-con situations / rapes, and quite graphic. But as their relationship progresses.... Fans of yaoi with mild SM themes will probably really like this volume. It's not "over the top" though, the story is well-developed, and sex scenes are very tastefully drawn. The volume ends with troubling cliffhanger...but read on! Volume 4 will bring us hope :)
The manga-ka notices in the afterword that volume 3 was serialized in a different, more "adult" magazine, and hence "the content is a little more adult with more sex scenes". It shows. It's not as graphic as Shiuko Kano's Steppin' Series, for instance, but more explicit than Ze's previous volumes or Love Mode, with hints of frontal nudity (but hints only!), sexy "licking", "dripping fluids" (from all the "interesting" spots), and numerous sex scenes throughout the book.
As the action moves out from the Waki's (doll-maker's) house, with its numerous (and somewhat easy-to-get-confused-with) inhabitants, the plot becomes linear and very easy to follow in this book. If you were disappointed by the lack of yaoi action or over-complexity of the first two volumes, my advice is to try this volume. It can be read pretty much as a "stand-alone", with the minimum (if any) knowledge of Ze's universe. The whole kami/kotodama power/magic relationship is clearly explained and demonstrated throughout this volume, so I even think that this volume can be fully understood and enjoyed without prior reading of the first two. I believe that most of hardcore yaoi fans will find this book enjoyable: it might not be the most hardcore out there, but it's passionate, angsty and very sexy. I can highly recommend Ze 3 to all yaoi fans who like their yaoi "really yaoi" and sexy to the core, and are OK with non-con situations.

Give Me MORE!, October 5, 2009
This review is from: Ze Volume 3 (Yaoi) (Paperback)
I really enjoyed the third volume in the Ze series. It is seriously threatening to surpass Love Mode, which is one of my favorites of all time. The story is very touching and beautiful, although sad at the end. The sex was definitely much more explicit. I think the other reviewers went over the storyline well, so I won't. However, I was a little sad that there wasn't much expansion on Raizou and Kon. I loved the second manga SO much because it explored Shoui/Asari and Raizou/Kon.
It was interesting to learn about Genma and Himi but...I didn't really feel like I cared about these two characters as much. I've felt more for the characters in some of her shorts in Love Mode. Rather then having a couple of mangas to build up their relationship or to get to know the characters, they meet, hook up (for lack of a better word), and then one of them dies! I just felt like it needed more character development somehow.
It was beautifully written and drawn etc. But..I don't know, maybe it's just me. I feel like she did this at the end of Love Mode as well. I mean, I wanted to know about their past, but I wish she could have given us the present as well. Rather then ending with the past, and a rather depressing past at that. Maybe I'm just too much of a sucker for happy endings. However, that's the only reason I'm giving four stars rather then five.
