Excellent, long lasting reel. I replaced the line with another brand for the type of fishing that I do. But out of the box it's ready to go. Flush with fresh water after fishing in salt water and spray reel with WD40. This baby will handle Redfish,Speckled Trout, etc., when properly set up.

I grew up using the Zebco 33's and still hang tough with them. While my buddies are untangling their line and bragging about how good their open face reels are, I am reeling in fish and laughing at them.
The reason for the bad review is this. All the old models and new models have the same problem. If you cast really hard and push too hard on button,it pops off the front cover of the reel. I can work around it, but on occasion I use heavier baits and need to cast a long way, and that's when the front cover pops off. It just seems to me that it would not be that hard to engineer the cover to stay on during hard casts. If Zebco can fix that, there would be no reason not to own a Zebco 33. I have even reeled in a 25lb carp with 10lb test, and the reel and drag worked flawlessly.
