high quality,
This review is from: Zebco Dora the Explorer Floating Spincast Combo (Misc.)
This fishing pole is sturdy. My 3yo has had it for over a month now and still loves it. She's practiced casting in the yard many many times (it comes with a little rubber-like fish for practice and play). She's also taken it with her to fish with Dad. It comes with 3 bobbers. She successfully caught fish with this pole using worm bait and had a great time. This is about the only fishing pole I could find that claims to float. We haven't tested that, but I'm confident that it does. Yes, it's Dora, but there's only one little tiny Dora and one tiny star on the whole thing. Otherwise, it is a nice deep violet color with some green and yellow.
Update: it does float!!

Grandma just bought this today at a local Wal-mart and it's very cute. Ours is only slightly different in colors - mainly it's dark pink and a dark fuchsia color and the only yellow parts on it are the fishing line guides you thread the line through on the pole. The fish is also a dark fuchsia. My 3 year old daughter loves it, she's been begging for a fishing pole. She was thrilled that it came with a fish. It's somewhat easy for her to use - reeling in and casting work fine for her. The pole handle seems a little too big for her but I guess it's meant to hold 2 hands, but it seems almost as big as an adult fishing pole handle.
I have two cons: 1.) I've tied the darn fish on the fishing line 5 times in the past couple of hours. Maybe it's because I'm really that terrible at tying knots in fishing line or maybe someone else has figured out a better way to attach the fish. 2.) Inside the reel, the "catch" that is supposed to catch the fishing line in order to reel it in, is a joke. It's barely longer than the fishing line itself so it has a hard time catching it. This leads to the many MANY feet of fishing line (what kid needs that much fishing line!!?!?!) and it's so hard to get it all back on the reel because you have to manually do it until there's only a few feet of line before the "catch" actually catches it. I'm going to try to remedy it by maybe sticking an adhesive pad onto the end of it to make it longer since there's plenty of room between the catch and the reel cover. I just don't understand why it was just a teeny cylinder meant to catch the fishing line when it could have been a tiny hook that would have done a much better job and I wouldn't have to manually reel in feet and feet and feet of fishing line to fix it every 15 minutes. Ok, so I've had a 3rd con: 3.) The amount of fishing line on the reel itself. I don't foresee my daughter doing any deep sea fishing so I don't understand why she needs so much line. I'm probably going to shorten it, it's just entirely too much fishing line!!

Dora Fishing Rod,

Ours is a pink version purchased at Wal-Mart. I suppose it's not meant to be used with a lure that you reel in every 30 seconds, because it casts TERRIBLY. I got 3 good casts out of it. The rest of the time it kept getting caught on itself or SOMETHING. It just wouldn't work! And I DID read the instructions lol.
I think it's meant to be used with a baited hook, the bobber, and a weight. That way it just sits there and you don't have to reel it in all the time. If you want to use sparkling little lures I suggest a different pole. My daughter LOVED that it was Dora. She is 19 months old and when she saw it in the store she lit up and kept saying DORA DORA!! lol She didn't care much for it at the fish pond though. Maybe when she is older.

Can't say too much about this item since it arrived broken. Amazon was very accommodating when notified and refunded my money promptly. The child's rod and reel seemed to be a fun toy for a future "fisherman or fisher woman" but it will probably need to be carefully cared for.
