I hate to admit it but I basically quit fishing when I entered Military Service back in '86. Now after 20 years there and three more years back out working as a civilian again, I decided that I needed to get back to fishing. It's been a long time but I knew I could not go wrong with Zebco as a starting point with no current knowledge of the market so I got a light Zebco rod and this medium-heavy one and neither disappointed me.

This rod has great feel and depending on what you're casting, outstanding distance. It cranks smoothly and quietly. If you're using a float you can just make your cast and flip a switch and if anything hits it you get a very audible "drag" sounding alarm from the internal mechanism so even if you dose off, you still have a good chance of bringing that fish in. It comes pre-spooled so you just need to affix the reel release line and add bait and you're ready to go. A great rod for any collection.

Hurricane Ike with it's 8' tidal surge wiped out our fishing gear...this is my second purchase on this product to start re-stocking! I know it's not the best on the market, but it catches those remaining trout and croakers just like the more expensive ones. And just in time for flounder fishing! All I need now is a cast net since most of the bait houses are destroyed! Please keep Galveston County in your prayers as Hurricane Ike truly devastated most of it.

During a two-month period, I experimented, in succession, with four different types of spincast rod and reel combos, but could not achieve a satisfactory result. However, after perusing several reviews on various spincast rod and reel combos, I made a definitive selection: the ZEBCO 808 MEDIUM HEAVY SPINCAST ROD & REEL COMBO. It is absolutely fantastic. Even as a novice at fishing (two months of experience), I used my ZEBCO 808 Combo at my first attempt, and caught 15 channel catfishes, my largest catch ever, at the local lake. My subsequent fishing trips with my ZEBCO 808 Spincast Combo have been equally successful. In fact, I am so pleased with this equipment, that I intend to purchase one or two more as spares.

I bought this rod and reel to catch Pink Salmon in the Pacific NW. It is easy to cast and the rod quite firm, maybe just a little too firm. I was easily able to bring in a 6 lb. pink. It is heavy duty to handle many of your larger fish. I have used Zebco reels for many years and this one met my expectations. The purchase was a good experience.

I found these products to work fine. The only complaint I had was that they did not come with instructions on the reel or rod. Having not ued a rod or reel for some time, I could have used a few tips on "useage". I could not find the Zebco instruction book on the Zebco 808 on the internet.

No quality control. Reel was shipped internally broken/incomplete. It's missing both pick up pins. Reds Gear and Zebco both have bad customer service. I'll keep dealing with Zebco but never again with Reds Gear... Lesson learned! Amazon filled purchases only from now on.

Bought this for my hubby to fish off the pier. He says it's pretty good. Not as sensitive as he'd like, but a nice rod. He also said the guy at the bait shop seemed impressed with it :o)

a little more heavy duty then i expected, i was going to use it on lakes but it seems to big for that still its a great product but the shiping was crappy by the time i got it the box had fallen apart but that really has nothing to do with the product im going to try it out at the saltwater fishing pier by my house and see how it does

I am a grandfather and needed to have my 3 little fishing buddies have good gear. So I bought the combo because of Zebco's reputation of quality and cost. Zebco has lived up to it.

Took this fishing pole out to Lake Lopez in So. California for some fishing; caught some bass and a tone of blue gill. For its price, its a great fishing combo, but if you're just fishing off the shore in freshwater lakes, this pole and line is a bit overkill.
