5.0 out of 5 stars solidly built and good casting reel
I really enjoy this reel. It casts quite well, comparable to my baitcasters, and I have found it to be well constructed of solid metal. I would like there to be two models, with one having a larger reel capacity. If you need stronger line, the capacity becomes limited. I have not found the problems suggested by the other reviewer who was very negative. On the...

1.0 out of 5 stars CANNOT RECOMMEND
I purchased the reel at Bass Pro for my wife who is a beginner. It is very easy to use but, it completely failed on its second trip to the coast. My wife hooked two fish in a row but, the line broke each time. I noticed that the line had nicks and had no strength. I changed the line and the next fish kept taking drag while not allowing the fish to be reeled. I had to...

I have not found the problems suggested by the other reviewer who was very negative. On the contrary, I found this reel to be solidly built, and a good value considering the cost of comparable baitcast and spinning reels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Omega 2, April 16, 2009

Great reel for light to medium duty freshwater fishing. Cast well, solid built.

The only draw back of the reel is the grade of line you can use, your kind of limited. But I believe Zebco is coming out with another version for bigger line, or has already done so.

This reel has not disappointed me yet.

Also I guess I should note, that I did not use the line that came pre-installed on the spool, I threw that away and put spiderwire fishing line on.

My wife hooked two fish in a row but, the line broke each time. I noticed that the line had nicks and had no strength. I changed the line and the next fish kept taking drag while not allowing the fish to be reeled. I had to tighten the drag to the point that it would not tighten anymore. It would still grind and was very hard to turn for just a two pound fish. I took it apart and cleaned the reel but, it still functioned the same. A year had passed so I just threw it away.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better Lake Reel Than Trout, April 22, 2012
This review is from: Zebco Omega Z02 Spincast Reel (Sports)
I live in the Great Smoky Mountains, and trout fish a great deal. I received this reel last Christmas, but just used it recently. It casts great, retrieves smoothly, but is a tad too heavy for the creek banks, thus my 4-stars. The line that it was preloaded with was a very thin red color, very strong and hard to see looking into creek. Too strong for trout fishing, where you get hung in rocks and bushes. Replaced with good old Stren blue flourescent, strong, but easier to break and easier to see. The Z02 and the Z03 would make better lake reels. Would probably purchase the Zebco Omega Z02 Pro for trout fishing, as it is the same reel but lighter weight and black colored so as not to spook trout.

5.0 out of 5 stars great reel, February 22, 2012
This review is from: Zebco Omega Z02 Spincast Reel (Sports)
bought the ZO-2 and the ZO-3 last year before a fishing trip to Boundary Waters Canoe area, I only used the ZO-3 while there
that thing is bullet proof. Started using the ZO-2 on trout on the San Juan River this winter and I've got it combined with a light ugly stik and let me tell you that thing is a blast. With light weight and a flick of the wrist it casts forever. And like its big brother the ZO-2 is also bullet proof. There is no question that the reel will work well each and every time you cast out - period -
it is a very light reel , in that it is meant for light line, and knowing that you will find that it will not pull rocks off of the riverbed. However it has worked perfectly in fast water on several trout up to 18 inches. In fact I will use it again today and I will guarantee no mishaps
great reel, buy it use it and enjoy no hassle fishing
and the reason for the original purchase - it is the best out of a canoe

1.0 out of 5 stars Would not recommend this reel., June 1, 2008
I realy want a nice current Zebco push button reel. But this one went out on me on the second season. I had a complete failure. One of the catch pins would get caught behind the reel. My fishin was done for the day and I was really bummed. It did see some good use for a season and when it was working it casted well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Well built but not smooth retrieve, September 22, 2011

This review is from: Zebco Omega Z02 Spincast Reel (Sports)
Very disappointing. This reel looks like a real solid product from years gone by. I was thrilled with it until I put it on a long spincast rod and tried some test casting and retrieve. It has a very uneven, jerky action when the line winds around the spool. It is not a mechanical bind or gear problem, but seems to be a serious design problem in the ratio of retrieve compared to the level wind mechanism or some other attached drive function. I probably should have sent it back, but this seems to be the only quality spincast reel on the market any more....
