Ah, the timeless and enduring Zebco 202, the ownership of which is as essential a rite of passage for American youth as sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Nearly 40 years ago, at the tender age of seven, the mighty 202 was my first fishing reel and worked like a dream in terms of use and maintenance for a kid for whom mechanical aptitude and patience were in very short supply. Its simple push-button casting is easy for kids to master and it's robust enough for them to haul in small panfish, perch, catfish, and bass hand over fist. Setting the drag and changing line is also a breeze. Believe it or not, I still have mine and it works perfectly, which bodes well for my son who is just now showing an interest in angling. Now if someone could just invent something which guarantees a fish with every cast...

I've used it continuously on two short fishing trips so far. I think it is a great bargain for the money. My only complaint is that I ordered three, but they only shipped two. They charged me for three, so I had to request a refund for one. That reimbursement happened rather quickly. I will probably order one more soon, since shipping is free. The casting is pretty good - at least as good as my two other (more expensive, but not high end) spinning reels. My brother-in-law has a very high-end spinning rod and reel, which does easily outcase this one. I know he paid a whole lot for that setup (hundreds, I am sure), because he likes to buy the best available. Anyways, even though his is clearly better, it isn't better enough to justify paying 30 to 50 times more. It maybe casts 30 feet further.

I bought a couple of poles at Harbor Freight for $9 each and put these reels on them. I haven't seen any store selling a rod and reel for $15, so I feel pretty good about the purchase. :-)

First off: I don't use this reel for fishing.

I built a HAM radio antenna launcher kit from the Joplin Amateur Radio Club and the addition of a spincast reel was required.

Basically, I have this thing attached to the end of a PVC pneumatic antenna launcher. When you fire the launcher projectile, the line trails out of the reel for recovery over trees or high objects.

I replaced the 10lb line with 15lb and have had no issues.

I consistently get smooth launches and line recovery works well. No issues yet.

For $10 I couldn't find a better deal.

If you need a reel for launching goodies up into the trees, look no further :-)

the reel has kept working I was suprised for a cheap reel but so far so good I just hoep it keeps working in the future Zebco has really cheapened up there products compared to 20 years ago or so but I guess in todays economy it's all about staying in business hope your arond for another 20+ years please keep up the good work

I am a novice fisherman but had a houseboat trip on Lake Powell coming up. Bought these and two of the Shakespeare Medium Action Travel Mate Casting Rods (6-Feet 6-Inch) - and could not have been happier. Other folks on the boat were messing with tangled lines in their traditional casting rods. Not my wife and I. We were casting as far as everybody else. Smooth action and no fuss.

This is a nice reel for the price. Works good. The buzzing noise when reeling takes some getting used to (it reminds me of reels from 30 years ago). Great for the price point, but I'd NEVER buy it for the suggested retail price ($50!). Good for occasional use, kids, a back-up reel, etc. Worth up to $15.

I bought this reel because it was cheap and simple. It is not at all like the classic Zebco reels we have all come to know and love. It is cheaply made, and makes a "whiring" sound when I reel it, despite being taken apart and oiled. Despite the noise and the fact that it is cheaply made, I have caught several fish on it, and it does continue to work and has not as of yet given me any "bird nesting" problems.

I've used Zebco for years. Bought this real for a youngster. It was defective out of the package. Wouldn't allow line to leave the spool. Had to send it back. Very disappointing.

I have been using Zebco products for 40+ years. To show the low end 202 as list price of $57.99 is absurd and deceitful. You can buy Zebco 33 Classic with rod for less than $40 just about anywhere. Is Amazon that hard up? You need to have better standards.

This could be the worst reel of all time. Do not be fooled by the good reviews. Although it's a cheap purchase it is not worth the 6 or 7 dollars. I will never buy a zebco product again. Please do not even think about buying this. It is loosely put together and will just get tangled up alot. DONT BUY THIS!
