Good quality writing, and priced right!

I like these pens because they are very small when you put the cap on and so they fit in small places, like a pocket or wallet.

With the F-301, I always have one with me.

No question that this is a handy and compact pen to carry about in a shirt pocket or elsewhere because of its compressed size until you easily restrore it to full length by removing the cap and putting it on the rear of the pen body. Writes well as do other Zebra pens and manages to fit in and use the same full size Zebra refills. I find it great for jotting down a quick note or two; endorsing a check; etc. But it would be a lot better if the cap snapped more securely to the body when using the pen in full-length mode. I have a number of these pens and am a fan of them because of their size and utility but would not want to use one for long term/major note taking and such because the loose cap on the body can make it tricky to hold easily. But this may be a personal issue best decided after use. Others may not be bothered by it. I do, however, think though that Zebra should have designed a small ridge on the parts so the cover snaps securely to the body when in full length. Oddly, they did just that so that when the pen is closed in compact mode the cap attaches securely.

!!FOLLOW-UP NOTE: I have found that wrapping a single layer of tape around the barrel makes the fit tight enough to keep the cap on more secuely. I use a thin transparent bandage tape that has a slightly rough exterior that provides extra friction. If your cap doesn't stay on and you experiment with different tapes and ticknesses the issue may be less of a bother.

Amazon's current picture of the Zebra F-301 compact pen doesn't do the pen justice. (I added 2 pictures so you can see the pen in compact form.) The pen is a capped version with a fine ballpoint style refill. It measures 3 13/16" long in compact form and 5 1/4" long in full length with the pen reversed onto the cap. The pen can also be used without the attached cap, in which case the pen measures 3 9/16". The pen is compact and easy to carry with a long 2" clip that makes it easy to clip onto many surfaces. (I carry the pen clipped to my pants pocket instead of a shirt pocket.) There is even a hole at the end of the cap so you can attach a key ring or thin lanyard. It is about the same size as the Fisher Trekker pen but is 1/16" shorter and comes with a pen clip. The pen is 3/8" longer compared to a Fisher bullet pen. I have started to carry the F301 Compact Pen instead of the Trekker on my keyring -- I think that it will work slightly better because it can be used in the full-length format. (I bent and broke off the pen clip to carry the pen on my keyring. The clip isn't necessary and just adds additional bulk.)

The pen half is removed from the cap with a solid pull and also snaps back into place with a solid click. When the pen half is reversed into the cap, an O-ring keeps the cap fixed to the end of the pen. The O-ring is barely large enough to keep the cap secure -- it does slip just slightly. I find my fingers sometimes uncomfortably adjusting to the pen because the cap doesn't seem secure enough. The pen grip is just the black plastic of the pen with checkerboard-pattern grooves -- it's plain but enough for fingers to grip the pen.

The fine ballpoint style may not suit some people but the compact size makes this pen useful to carry around.

The pens are mostly what I expected. However, they must have come from old stock because the "o" rings are hard and shrunken causing the caps to not fit tight and slip off when the pen is in use.

I carry this pen with me every day. I was carrying the Inka pen, but I prefer this one mainly because it writes a little easier, has black ink (Inka only offered in blue ink), assembles easier and quicker than the Inka, and has a clip. (I clip it onto the inside of my front left pocket).

For the price, it is an outstanding pen!

I bought the Zebra Compact to replace a Cross Pen, and I was very surprised how beautifully this pen wrote, compared to virtually any ball or gel type pen I have used previously. It has a very fine point, but it just never skips and starts immediately, unlike many other pens I have tried in the past. I never looked back and use this pen exclusively. It is amazingingly small when folded into the cap, but becomes a full size pen quickly, so it goes in any pocket very easily. It is very inexpensive, but that is not the reason I like it. In fact, I wish they would put out a more expensive version that was a little more luxurious, but that is hardly a complaint.

These pens are a great idea in that they are small and slip neatly into my pocket, taking very little room. However, the two haves are held in place by a very small rubber o-ring that is fit into the upper barrel of the pen. This is supposed to offer enough resistance to keep the two halves together during use. This O-ring soon looses or wears to the point where it will not fulfill its purpose and the two halves fall apart too easily. I have remedied this by winding a length of thin thread under the o-ring. A better o-ring, or friction device would make this product much better and more acceptable to the public.

I carry a pen in my pants pocket and this design never leaks and is, truly, more compact. That's the truth and I'm stickin' with it.
