The pen half is removed from the cap with a solid pull and also snaps back into place with a solid click. When the pen half is reversed into the cap, an O-ring keeps the cap fixed to the end of the pen. The O-ring is barely large enough to keep the cap secure -- it does slip just slightly. I find my fingers sometimes uncomfortably adjusting to the pen because the cap doesn't seem secure enough. The pen grip is just the black plastic of the pen with checkerboard-pattern grooves -- it's plain but enough for fingers to grip the pen.
The fine ballpoint style may not suit some people but the compact size makes this pen useful to carry around.Read more ›
!!FOLLOW-UP NOTE: I have found that wrapping a single layer of tape around the barrel makes the fit tight enough to keep the cap on more secuely. I use a thin transparent bandage tape that has a slightly rough exterior that provides extra friction. If your cap doesn't stay on and you experiment with different tapes and ticknesses the issue may be less of a bother.
For the price, it is an outstanding pen!
One problem with mine was that the Oring that prevents the pen itself from slipping from the barrel when extended was too small. I added a loop of electrical tape to it and it's MUCH tighter. When retracted, the pen clicks with a very satisfying "snap!"
Improvements that could be done: make the pen part go farther in the barrel. I wouldn't mind a bit more steel to cover up the plastic, and the pen looks a bit ugly with the hunk of plastic sticking out.
Takes the F refill; so I don't have to buy another new proprietary refill; I have about 4 packs of refills for my F301's.
The main reason I write the review now, nearly two years after Graduation, is because of an event that showed just how impressive these pens are. I accidentally washed one of them with my laundry. Normally when such an event occurs the clothes in that was would need a ton of per-treatment spray and a few rounds in the washer machine to remove the ink. But in this case, not a single ink stain on my clothes. The pen was in its travel formation, closed and none of the ink got out. The cartridge is in bad shape, but honestly, that's great. The setup of that pen saved me time and money in laundry costs. I will gladly go and get a refill cartridge for this pen and count myself lucky.
The complaints I see about the difficulty writing with them and the inability to align them for travel make me wonder. I never had issues with that and I used 4 pens over the course of 3 semesters and 2 years afterward. My hands are largish and there was no difficulty.

This is a nice size for every day carry, but the ink is just average. It writes like any cheap (or free) ballpoint pen. Read morePublished 8 hours ago by Alex L.
The o rings are too small to jeep it together in the writing position.Published 5 days ago by jason lowe
It's absolutely perfect! Works well as a pen, of course, but also fits perfectly in my wristlet, which is just why I bought it!Published 11 days ago by BARBARA VANNESS
This in my opinion is everything the Zebra SL-F1 is not. If you are looking for a small pen you can stick in your pocket or purse this pen is great. Read morePublished 17 days ago by Amazon Customer
Price is good, and it writes well. Not a whole lot of pens this size. The rubber o-ring isn't large enough to keep the cap/cover securely on the pen when in writing mode.Published 1 month ago by Alex Goya
Meh one of the plastic washers the holds it together wears out quickly and it won't stay closed and your left with a tiny pen.Published 1 month ago by Andrew David
This is my favorite pen. I can no longer find it in any stores. I fits in my front pocket so well and writes so well I buy extras of them so I always have one. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Kenton B. Garner

I thought this pen would extend like the other Zebra pens I have. Instead, the top comes off and attaches to the end to create a full-size pen. Read morePublished 2 months ago by P. Krause
