Product Description

The Zebra GK420d monochrome desktop direct thermal label printer has a 32-bit processor, prints 5" per second in black at 203 dpi, and can be used to print labels, tags, receipts, or other media up to 4.09" wide. Direct thermal printers use heat instead of ink and are typically smaller, quieter, faster, and more energy-efficient than dot-matrix printers. The GK420d has a maximum print speed of 5" per second at 203 dpi (dots per inch) and prints labels up to 39” long. The 32-bit processor combined with the 8 MB of SDRAM memory and 4 MB of flash memory offers fast first label printing with extensive media graphics. EPL and ZPL programming languages are standard.

The GK420d printer's double-walled casing is made of ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), which helps resist impact. An open-access design facilitates media loading. Parallel, serial, and USB ports allow connectivity to a computer or other devices. A USB cable comes with the printer (parallel and serial cables sold separately). The printer automatically detects installed media and calibrates to the media type and length for accurate printing. A reflective sensor allows the printer to identify the gaps, holes, notches, or black marks between labels to print the labels accurately. A transmissive sensor enables it to detect when a roll of media has run out. An odometer can be used to track the print length. The auto-detectable power adapter can accept AC power between 100 and 240 volts. This printer is suitable for use with black bar, black mark, continuous, continuous receipt, die-cut, fanfold, gap, notched, perforated, receipt, roll-fed, tag, or tag stock media (all sold separately). The maximum outside diameter for rolls is 5".

This is the only printer that works for our needs. Its a bit pricey but lasts a very long time. I had to research how to set the width at the panel. Press and hold the button until you have seen 5 blinks, then let go. It will start printing the width settings. press the button when you get the width you need. Setting the width in windows does not work for our app.

This is a good printer, and came in good condition. Sometimes it is difficult to get it to align correctly with the labels, but other than that it is fine. Note: for this model you need to tear off the labels. There is no cutter.

I bought two of these printers for a customer about 7 months ago and they still work great. The customer prints about 400-500 thermal labels a week for their manufactured products.

I have 4 of these little guys. They print great and virtually never break-down. By that I mean I've never had one break-down so far.

I used to have a used ZP450, which sparked out on me a few months after buying it. This product is better because:

-- It has a plug with a surge-protector. I think this is why the last one zonked out on me.
-- This device is smaller than the ZP450. I don' t know why. I like this.
-- It isn't going to print as fast as an expensive Zebra, but it does print plenty fast enough for my volume.
-- The feed is accurate. I can't tell how many labels I wasted calibrating the other printer I had. This one just zips right into place on the first pass.

Although this was a bittersweet purchase for me, I don't regret it one bit. The print quality is better than my last device and I wish that I had bought this one first. These aren't cheap, but Zebra printers are the professional standard. They do exactly one thing (print labels) and do it very well.

This is a good printer for the price. I am giving it four stars because setup is a little confusing. Saving your settings is not an easy thing to find but once you have that it works pretty good
