An excellent introduction into the life and accomplishments of a man who changed American history,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zebulon Pike: Explorer and Soldier (Signature Lives) (Hardcover)
Zebulon Pike was sent by the American government to explore and report back on the American West which had been rapidly expanding throughout the 1700s and into the 1800s with the acquisition of the Louisiana Purchase and the continuing conflicts with Native Americans, Spain, and Mexico. Zebulon Pike, an American army officer, helped to open up the way for pioneers and settlers who would eventually follow where he led. Highly recommended for school and community library biography collections for young readers, Zebulon Pike: Explorer And Solider is part of the outstanding Compass Point Books "Signature Lives: American Frontier Era" series and provides an excellent introduction into the life and accomplishments ("Pike's Peak" is named after him) of a man who changed American history with his fearless treks leading expeditions along the Mississippi River and as far west as the Rocky Mountains.
