5.0 out of 5 stars The best commentary on Zechariah!, January 8, 2006
This review is from: Zechariah: A Commentary on His Visions & Prophecies (Paperback)
This book is an excellent tool for anyone wanting to study Zechariah.David Baron was born in Russia and raised in a Jewish family. He latered converted to Christianity. This author's background enabled him to look at Zechariah from a number of view-points.What makes this book so good is that he mentions differing views from a number of sages and higher critics, than details the faults or accuracies in whatever theory.
Zechariah prophesied of our Messiah and he gives Scripture reference to other O.T prophecies that tie together. The author also did an excellent job of showing how Zechariah relates to the book of Revelation.
Mr.Baron does a superb job of explaining the book of Zechariah while making it an easy read. The footnotes are very informative. Also included in this book are a General Index and Scripture Index which make this a great reference book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zechariah Explained, March 11, 2011
By
This review is from: Zechariah: A Commentary on His Visions & Prophecies (Paperback)
Zechariah has been called the apocalypse of the Old Testament. As such modern commentators seem to focus the "End Times" application of the Zechariah's eight visions and the Crowning of Joshua, etc., at the expense of their near term value. Other's focus on the near term and either allegorize or ignore the apocalyptic applications. David Brown strikes the best balance between near and far applications that I have yet encountered.

His formal training in Rabbinic's combined with the insight the comes with recognizing his Messiah, enables incredible insights into what is arguably one of the compelling books of the Bible, but one of the most difficult to grasp as a whole.
