As a huge fan of the whole Brushfire label I generally like most of the artists that they put out. In this case I can easily say that I LOVE Zee Avi!! Fantastic voice, simple but wonderful lyrics and just the right amount of accompaniment (a lot of singer songwriters tend to over produce) this album hits all the right spots for me. I am thoroughly enjoying this while I wait and hope she comes on tour near me.

Zee Avi is simply refeshing. I love her choice of lyrics, I can relate.
She evokes an emotional response without the shock factor, very, very
satisfying to listen to!

I discovered this wonderfully talented singer today while checking some of the featured videos for some people I follow on YouTube when I discovered a video of some live performances by Zee. I was instantly blown away by her great voice, fun lyrics, and generally mellow mood of her music. It's not often that you see somebody like this with natural talent and is not produced from some manufactured formula. If your a fan of anybody along the lines of Norah Jones, you'll definitely enjoy Zee.

Take a moment out of your busy life to sit back and listen to this very talented young voice. Zee Avi has a wonderfully expressive voice, and the accompanying music frames it perfectly.

I was watching videos on cnn.com and stumbled upon Zee Avi "Bitter Heart" and instantly loved her voice and presence. I didn't bother listening to the samples- I purchased and downloaded the album. No regrets!

Hi everyone. She is a delightful artist to listen. Her style will go a long way in this business. I am sure she will be a big time performer hoping to see more of her work. I love her songs even the one song she sang in her native language. Thanks

A feast for the ears. Zee Avi has the voice of an angel. This is one of those rare albums you can play through from start to finish; then listen to over again. Strongly recommended.

While I didn't catch up with Zee (aka KokoKaina) when she was first gaining steam on youtube, I did stumble upon her with Brushfire's Warm December Christmas album.

After hearing her on that album and then exploring her stuff a bit more, I was really eager for this album. Bought it yesterday and have been playing it almost non-stop since then. Every track has its own personal soothing/funky/soulful feel. This seems oh so hard to find these days.

Unlike another review, I think that this album sounds very raw (in a good way) and fairly unadulterated. There is a difference between studio recording and home video. The difference does not necessarily equate to the music being transformed into something more mainstream or watered down...it's just cleaned up a little. I'm confident that, working with the amazing Brushfire crew, Zee will be able to continue to create soulful music.

I am not typically one to seek out up and coming musicians. I'm lazy about such things and wait for a body of work before buying whole albums, if ever. And I'd rather listen to Dean Martin or Johnny Cash then 99.99% of what passes for contemporary music. But this young woman is really, really good. She isn't going to be filling any large venues with her unassisted voice, but in the small intimate space, where she whispers her stories in your ear, filled with tragic optimism, there she excels.

I thoroughly enjoyed this album. Who would have thought that opium addiction (Poppy) could be presented in such a bouncy toe tapper. Which seems to be the modus operandi of the whole album: tell a sad story you can sing along to. Enjoyable on so many levels.

I just hope she doesn't get caught in a rut, and continues creating unique things, because I think she could do a lot with her talents, and there are a lot of musical textures out there to play with. For some reason, I think she could do something with Patsy Cline's standards, or maybe a children's album.

I first heard her on public radio, and liked her sound. It went straight to my favorites.
