5.0 out of 5 stars Dark synth-pop sensation....
The strangest thing is that all the best synth-pop bands come from Germany or England. 3.0 out of 5 stars Synthpop it is
I recently purchased this CD based on a a song I of theirs I found on a compilation. But all I can say is that this CD was a let down.
The music is good, and a few tracks spark my interest but on the whole the lyrics are less then engaging, and most of the tracks are mediocre. They really just sound average.

The strangest thing is that all the best synth-pop bands come from Germany or England. Ususally the darker synth sounds come from Germany and De/Vision has been one of the most important synth-pop bands from there. This album is a great way to get to know the band if you dont already. It includes most of the singles of the band from the past 10 years. Songs like "Your Hands on My Skin", Try to Forget" and "Dinner Without Grace" are club sensations and most of us have heard them at times. There are also lots of great dark, slow songs that will make us cry and this band can really express those feelings well. We all have gone through the first love blues and know how hard it is to forget and the song "Try to Forget" expresses those feelings in a few verses so wonderfully. I love this album and its definatly one of my favorates. I like to refere to De/Vision as Depeche Mode of the 90's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Depeche, not any the less for it., June 24, 2002

If Depeche Mode are a favourite band.....prepare to have another. Not that these guys are a carbon copy, in fact they sound like no-one but themselves. Nonetheless, the influences they have in common are apparent, and they share elements like the infectious beats coupled with honest and true lyrical composition, the landscape of sound and evocative arrangements which are so characteristic of Depeche Mode, and so draw these comparisons. Quality weighed against quality, De/Vision come off ok, for they are no pretenders to the throne but have plenty to say, and their own delicately constructed harmonies with which to say it. Steering well clear of the worst excesses of electronica's sometime tendency to indulge in navel-gazing and equally far from the meaningless banality of the dance-ruled new electric, these guys carefully punctuate the finer points of what electronica truly has to offer. In fact, that is really what they do: the finer points.

If you want to have a clear idea of what these band had been making since 5 years before, get it. Some of their songs are remixed with a dance-music style (like Your Hands on My Skin), you could appretiate their mature style. It's a really nice album, is not dark, it includes some romatinc songs and danceable ones. If you don't know the band, get this first, Monosex and Void after, you wont' be dissapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars ZEHN-sational!, March 8, 2002

This is a wonderful compilation of De/vision's singles and fan favorites from their first three records basically. In case you're not familiar with D/V, they are one of the best synth oriented bands in the world, though that label alone doesn't really cover the range and diversity. Their strengths revolve around deep melodies and great song writing abilities. As a result, whether the music is upbeat or slower, it's always good. Over the last decade, this German band has created many memorable songs. Quite a few are on this CD.

My favorites include:(Upbeat)- "Try to forget"***/"Your hands on my skin."***/"Dinner without Grace"***/"Free from cares"**/"Get over the wall"**/"Sweet Life"**/"I regret"***/All the remixes are cool too!
(Slower)- "Someone to draw the sword"**/"Dress when I bleed"***/"Like the sun"***/"Moments we shared"***

This is the album that started my love affair with this groups music and I have been hooked ever since. This album is perfect for the synthpop fan who is not familiar with De/Vision. It will get you caught up on their history and prepare you for what comes next, which is even better! A must have for any Depeche Mode or Erasure Fan and worth every penny.

This is definitely A MUST-HAVE!!! For all those Depeche Mode fans out there who're searching for other synthpop act, you definitely should search no more. DE/VISION's "ZEHN" is one of the best albums out there, it's a CLASSIC!!!! No, DE/VISION is not just a clone of DM, in fact the band was formed in 1988. The music that they play not just mimicking that of DM, but it has it's own unique quality that will haunt you forever. Every song in this album is a GEM. Well, it's their greatest hits collection after all. For anyone who's trying to explore DE/VISION, this is a great album to start with. But I highly recommend ALL DE/VISION albums available out there!!! Get them all, and you will know what I'm talking about. Peace!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Collection, August 23, 2003
By
The Blue Man (Oxford, OXON England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zehn (Audio CD)
De/Vision are a very very impressive group, closely reminiscent of Depeche Mode but often faster paced than that English group.

This release is a compilation of their best tracks from 8 years or so of albums. Although it obviously lacks the context which each of the earlier albums would give one (the only reason why it has only been given 4 stars), it is nonetheless a compelling audio experience with almost no weak songs and several excellent ones. The coldly-eyed atheistic "Dinner Without Grace" and intensely romantic "Dress Me when I Bleed" are better than excellent and nothing short of outstanding. It is even more remarkable that the former is quite fast-paced while the latter is morbidly slow, for it shows that De/Vision are able to create superb songs which differ significantly in conception.

All the earlier albums are available on www.amazon.de. For those who are skeptical, philistine or impecunious this is simply an album which one is aesthetically poorer having not heard - it must be purchased.
