This isn't a Multi-Coated Filter,

The price was great, but actually looking at the filter I can see clearly this isn't what I was hoping for -- there's no multi-coating.
You can test this by looking at a reflection of a light source on its surface: a perfect reflection indicates no coating, a dim reflection indicates a single coating, and a green reflection indicates multiple coatings. This filter mirrors reflections perfectly, which means it's just untreated glass. (sigh)

Good filter for a good price - but not truly multi-coated,

I bought this filter to use mainly as a lens protector for my Tamron 17-55mm f/2.8 lens (Canon XTi). This is a great option if you're on a budget but don't want to sacrifice quality. The glass doesn't rattle around inside the frame like one of my Canon brand UV filters, and it screws onto the Tamron lens securely. The Tamron lens cap also fits perfectly with this filter (which is made in Japan). However, it is not truly multi-coated; I noticed some green "ghosts" in my photos while taking pictures of some fire dancers at a luau. I'd look for something else if you are going for a true multi-coated filter, but if you just want a cheap yet sturdy filter to use as protection, this one is worth considering.

Perfect Protector,

Perfect for a lens protector. I don't notice a change in the coloring at all, but its a great protector for lenses. I have a Nikon D90 and it fits my lens perfectly. (I have a 18-105mm) Great price too.

Don't buy this and don't use this if you want decent photographs,

This is a well put together UV protector, easy to fit but that's about it. It definitely leaves reflections on the photographs. I kept this on my Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 XR DiII SP lens used on my Canon 60D and was continually getting bright spots on the photographs. I thought the UV filter was supposed to be used for producing clearer, blue skies but it just causes reflections instead. When paying however much on a decent camera and then $400+ for a lens, don't go and put a cheap Zeikos filter on it to ruin the shot.
I have now removed the filter and ordered a B+W F-Pro UV Multicoated filter which I already use on another lens and which is perfect (need to make sure you buy the genuine article which has a brass mount and not an aluminium mount)

Not for professional or semi-professional quality,

All this filter is really good for is protecting your lens. Do not use this filter if quality of your pictures is important to you. In strong light it casts glares and creates a clowding in your pictures. Depending where your light is coming from you will also get little circles of light. I should not have bought this filter. I was being cheap. Not worth it when you spend a good amount of money on a lens. Go for the multi coted filters.

I'm a professional videographer, and I'm telling you plainly: this filter is definitely NOT multi-coated, despite what the manufacturer claims. If you're looking for a simple protective glass filter comparable to an entry level Tiffen UV then this is a fine choice, but if you're looking for anything better keep looking. That being said, it does seem to be well built, it arrived clean and ready to go, and it's as easy to use as any other filter out there.

No multi-coating,
This review is from: Zeikos ZE-UV67 67mm UV Filter (Electronics)
I bought this item. Not here, but same package on Ebay. I do believe they are same product. If there is coating, the coating does not decrease reflection. I compared this filter with non coated filter, they have same reflection and the reflection is much stronger than a HMC Hoya filter I owned.
Good part, the seller give full refund without the need to return product.

I bought this filter for my Nikon lens together with my D90 kit in Nov., 2009.
From the advertisement it is a multi-coated filter, but I could not find any appearance of multi-coating on this filter as I usually found on Hoya Filter. May be this is a new technology in multi-coating? Who knows?

Truth be told, I'd never heard of Zeikos until I stumbled onto this filter in Amazon. The company's website wasn't exactly helpful in providing useful information, but they do manufacture a broad range of photographic and electronics products and were present in PMA '09, the imaging industry's largest event.
Plus, I was having trouble finding a decent 67 mm UV filter in Amazon, where I was also buying my Olympus 50-200 mm f/2.8-3.5 SWD lens. AND the product page told me it was made in Japan and was multi-coated. Not as expensive as the B+Ws and other top-name brands and not as inexpensive as the usual Tiffens (with which I've had some negative experience), I decided to risk it. It is a matter of personal preference to use protection filters or not, and I openly subscribe to the "pro filter" group for myriad reasons -- not least of which because it is easier to remove fingerprints and general gook from filters than it is from lenses. The Zeikos 67 mm UV filter is being a good experience so far. It has been on the lens for almost two months and is behaving exactly as it should, protecting the lens surface and not affecting my photos. I've tested the lens with and without it and can see no difference in the results, which is good. The filter feels solid and well made. Sometimes it's a good thing to take a risk! |
