5.0 out of 5 stars Great little light
Plenty of light for reading and it disperses light over a large enough area that you don't have to keep adjusting it. The best reading light I've come across.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good
This light is definitely bright enough for reading in bed. I like the fact that the little goose-neck lamp retracts into the base for storage and travel. My one complaint is that the light gets in the way when you are reading at the top of the page. You can angle it to be above the book, but I read in bed and by doing that, the bright light is right in my husband's...

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality, February 8, 2009

I recently purchased 4 of these booklights to give as Christmas presents. Because of a family situation my Christmas exchange was delayed until the end of January. 3 of the 4 lights did not work at all. The person who received the 1 that did work reported that he liked it though.

A friend of mine recently purchase 2 of these lights and neither one worked either. While this is a great idea in general, the company needs to pay more attention to quality control.

In short, if you need a booklight avoid this one. 3 of mine need to be returned. I would give this zero stars if that were an option.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stopped working after one month, January 24, 2009

Poor quality. The light stopped working after less than a month. Design isn't very good either. The clip is too tight and damages the spine of some books.

1.0 out of 5 stars Could never get one to work properly, December 14, 2008
This review is from: Zelco LED Bookmark Lite (Tools & Home Improvement)
The first one that I ordered never really worked properly. It was as if there was a short in the neck of the light and the light would go from very dim to bright continually. Sometimes moving the neck would effect it dimming and brightening. After it would warm up(10-15 minutes), it would usually get better. I felt like this product was defective so I sent it back and ordered another one. The second one didn't work at all. I gave up with the product at that point and didn't order another.

After years of "itty bitty book lite" use, I am very pleased with the brightness and ease of use and weight of this book lite. I'm buying my second one as I flung the first one accross the room in my sleep one night and broke it and I really miss it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best book light, November 25, 2008

The good: The light doesn't get in the way. Convenient way to store the goose-neck arm. The arm is very sturdy unlike those of Mighty Bright. It stays secure on the book.

The bad: The goose-neck arm isn't nearly long enough. It should be double its current length, in order to be positioned high enough to light the bottom of the page just as well as the top. The light quality itself is a blinding, harsh, cool white light - too bright, not at all pleasant to view at extended periods. It has a questionable build quality although it seems a bit better than the really cheap LED snake-like Mighty Brights (not saying much).

More bad:Most white LEDs have spectra that differ significantly from a black body radiator like the sun or an incandescent light. The spike at 460 nm and dip at 500 nm can cause the color of objects to be perceived differently under LED illumination than sunlight or incandescent sources, due to metamerism, red surfaces being rendered particularly badly by typical phosphor based white LEDs. There is also increasing concern that blue LEDs and white LEDs are now capable of exceeding safe limits of the so-called blue-light hazard as defined in eye safety specifications such as ANSI/IESNA RP-27.1-05: Recommended Practice for Photobiological Safety for Lamp and Lamp Systems.

Disclaimer: I picked this light up and receieved a defective unit with a broken on/off button. I did not replace it due to the above issues.

2.0 out of 5 stars 3rd time is NOT a charm... probably., October 21, 2010

The light came on as soon as I inserted the 3 AAA batteries (not included). When I pushed the switch up, the light still remained! The light was always on regardless of the switch position.

The light was bright and totally illuminated both sides of the book in complete darkness. I was very happy with it, but I decided I would be too annoyed to always have to remove the batteries whenever not in use.

I returned it and received another one at no charge. This time around, the light did not turn on regardless of the switch position (using the same and different batteries--all new). Needless to say, I've returned that as well.

For those of you who might get lucky and receive a fully functional one, then you should be pretty happy with it. I've decided to opt out on the second, free replacement.

2.0 out of 5 stars It worked okay...until it broke!, July 27, 2009
This review is from: Zelco LED Bookmark Lite (Tools & Home Improvement)
It only lasted 6 months before the wiring broke inside. My advice is, if you do buy one, don't twist the light at all when you pull it out of the base. I also didn't like the fact that it illuminated the whole room when I would read at night. I won't buy another one, that's for sure.

I love this light.... It provides adequate brightness and is an excellent bookmark. Either way, I now don't need to get up and turn off the wall light everytime I want to read at night-I just flip the switch on the side of the light and go to sleep. Wonderful!!!
