If you have taken up the grand task of learning to play the ocarina, and were introduced to ocarinas because of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, arguably the greatest game ever made (or at least one of the greatest anyway), then it's very likely you'll want to be playing some Zelda tunes on your very own little sweet potato and/or pendant. Koji Kondo has spent the better part of three decades crafting some of video gaming's very best music in the Zelda series, and despite how excellently written the music is, much of the most iconic pieces are also relatively simple to play on the Ocarina. Combine the universal appeal of Zelda's iconic music with the fact that a lot of it is quite easy to pick up and play for beginners makes this book a pretty good consideration for all ocarina players (and especially beginners) with a heart container or two for the legendary Zelda franchise.

The booklet is quite short, but has a very diverse and eclectic collection of Zelda tunes. It's great for beginners because on the first two pages are tutorial-like hints and suggestions on how to play the ocarina, as well as some important scales that are essential to learn right away if you want to get anywhere with the instrument. It also helps to learn those scales by heart to make learning the songs included in the book that much easier, because although many are simple and easy, some are pretty challenging. The songs included in the book range from iconic thematic songs to tunes Link actually played in Ocarina of Time,

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Worth the Amount of Money January 12, 2013

This product lists a total of 36 songs varying in rage of length from a short 5 note melody (Song of Healing) to the more difficult 7 or 8 note melody that continues for a longer period of time (Gerudo Valley). It also states what the major. minor, Minor Pentatonic, Oriental and Renaissance scales are listed in the first page. The Ocarinas (you should check this first) from Focalink/Songbird Ocarinas come with a paper listing the notes C5-E6 and popular tunes (12 songs) including: On Top of Old Smokey, Amazing Grace and even La Cucaracha. This is all I really needed, your situation may be different depending on how big of a fan you are. This book is really short not just short, it is 21 pages on a book that is 4 in. by 5.5 in. Personally, if you learn the notes on your ocarina, you can transcribe some songs-depending on the range of your ocarina (soprano, alto, tenor, etc.)- without this booklet that transcribes songs (Only some Legend of Zelda songs) for you. If you have any questions on transcribing songs on your own, not by ear because I can't do that, feel free to ask questions about ocarinas and transcribing songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great songbook June 6, 2013

I was first surprised at how very small this book is, but after the initial shock I am very glad that it is. Makes it very portable and light to carry.

This book comes with a list of scales and instructions on sharps and flats. Also gives you a list of solfeggio should you care to learn. All in all, great book for learning zelda songs.
