4.0 out of 5 stars I've had better ..., December 28, 2006
This review is from: Zelda: Wind Waker Player's Guide (Paperback)
I give this Nintendo Power guide 4 stars because it does not have an overworld fold out map (should give it a 2 for this reason;).

Also, the guide is not completely clear or specific when it comes to certain paths when moving through the game ... people always say: "The devil is in the details".

Some details are not spelled out cleary and left me guessing and experimenting a bit to find the solution to some puzzling gameplay.

Although I have experienced this same confusion in the past with other brand guides as well ... It happens.

What I do like about this guide is that it does however include all pertinent info and screenshots to progress and master the game.

I bought mine for 20 bucks at the local gamers depot.

How it compares to the Prima or Brady guide I have no idea, since I haven't seen theirs.

Although, having used Prima guides in the past I would be willing to say that their guide is PROBABLY spelled out a little more clearly?.

The thing that turned me away from the other two guides is the Ocarina of Time filler pages ... If I wanted a good Ocarina guide I would just buy one.

I would rather have those added pages filled with more spreads on the applicable game at hand: Wind Waker, but that's just me. ;)

5.0 out of 5 stars One Heck of a Ride, March 4, 2008
This review is from: Zelda: Wind Waker Player's Guide (Paperback)
OK, first off, Nintendo created the game so don't you think they could create the best guide for it? Well you thought correctly! This guide has everything from a complete walkthrough to an index of everything! The one bad thing is that the walkthrough is short: about 50 pages! But the thing is, the game is really short and the last 70 pages are to show the items: more than half of the game is spent looking for items!

Off with the introduction, on with the good stuff. To start off, the guide doesn't spoil anything, of course, what could you expect: it's Nintendo Power! It has everything you need to know about controlling Link, and the King of the Red Lions. Then has a short walkthrough, detailing all the stuff you need to know, but not every corner of the game. After that, there's a long index taking up half the guide to explain how to get all items like Pieces of Hearts, and all sidequests.

If I could have a perfect guide for this game, it would show the best times to do sidequests. Of course, I only have the Prima Guide and NP Guide, I'm gonna get the Brady to check it out. And now, to end this review, I'm gonna list the good and bad things about this guide.

GOOD

- No spoilers
- Full index of all items
- Full section just for the Nintendo Gallery
- Short walkthrough with only the stuff you HAVE to know
- All enemies and bosses covered in extreme detail
- Detailed maps for every section of the game
- Index of all islands

BAD

- You might have to flip back and forth a bit
- Walkthrough could be a LITTLE extended!
- There are maps only for the dungeons and islands in the back.

Maps: 5/5

Walkthrough: 4/5

Index: 5/5

Information: 5/5

Tips: 5/5

Overall: 4.9/5

Now this was a good buy. The game seems huge with unending quests and unlockables, but this book sums it all up in such short, sweet, and detailed sentences. I loved this walkthrough. Somehow, even after I'd beaten the game 3 times, this walkthrough still managed to open up my ideas to something new in the game.
