Book Description

October 24, 2008
Zella Dora's progression in life has been on hiatus for the better part of the past six years. Since losing her mother tragically and unexpectedly to a rare disease, she has inherited the duty of caring for her father who has vehemently refused to accept that his wife is forever gone. Added to that is the burden of being there for a suicidal friend who, in a quest for love, is determined to pull everyone around down with her. Not to mention her own dependence on her closest friend Darwin who, unbeknownst to Zella, is suffering from the quiet despair of unrequited love. When Zella becomes intimately involved with her married neighbor, her world quickly spins out of control begging the question of whether she'll ever be able to live for herself again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Miki Starr Does it Again, November 12, 2008
This review is from: Zella Dora: A Fictitious Memoir (Paperback)
Starr does it again. This "fictious memoir" captured me from the very beginning. This piece had me wrapped up and tied up as if I were a character in the book. Starr brings a new twist to the characters and their relationships in this book. At one point, it felt like I had lost touch with reality. I actually thought Zella was one of my friends. Someone whom I had developed a close relationship with; it's just that good!

5.0 out of 5 stars To Not Read This Book Is a Shame, March 6, 2009

ChickLitGurrl™ "Shonell Bacon" (Lake Charles, LA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zella Dora: A Fictitious Memoir (Paperback)
I was lucky enough to be a reader of Zella Dora as the uber-talented Miki Starr Martin penned the novel, and I'm beyond thrilled to see it in print. What I love the most about Zella Dora is the modern, literary style in which Martin writes. It's literary with an edge as the characters contend with family, relationships, friendships, lies, lust, love, heartbreak, and the list goes on. Zella Dora, the title character, is one you will love instantly because she is so real, so complicated, and so full of want...want of what? Everything. Isn't that what we humans strive for?
