To Not Read This Book Is a Shame,

This review is from: Zella Dora: A Fictitious Memoir (Paperback)
I was lucky enough to be a reader of Zella Dora as the uber-talented Miki Starr Martin penned the novel, and I'm beyond thrilled to see it in print. What I love the most about Zella Dora is the modern, literary style in which Martin writes. It's literary with an edge as the characters contend with family, relationships, friendships, lies, lust, love, heartbreak, and the list goes on. Zella Dora, the title character, is one you will love instantly because she is so real, so complicated, and so full of want...want of what? Everything. Isn't that what we humans strive for?

From the first sentence you'll be caught up in Zella Dora's plight. You'll be enraptured as she tries to find the balance between loving herself and being there for family and friends. Throughout the book you'll come to see that she's just like us, she's a young woman struggling to find her way. She makes a lot of mistakes and you'll begin to wonder if she'll ever get it together, but by the end everything finally falls into place. This book was well-written, poetic and the author's ability to channel the character left me in awe. A definite page-turner!

Miki Starr Does it Again,
By COCO "DEM GURLZ" (CHICAGO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zella Dora: A Fictitious Memoir (Paperback)
Starr does it again. This "fictious memoir" captured me from the very beginning. This piece had me wrapped up and tied up as if I were a character in the book. Starr brings a new twist to the characters and their relationships in this book. At one point, it felt like I had lost touch with reality. I actually thought Zella was one of my friends. Someone whom I had developed a close relationship with; it's just that good!
