This book has a great flow, similar to Dr. Seuss stories. The tale is a sweet story of a baby ostrich who is adopted into a herd of zebra. The illustrations and exciting words are great fun!!! Great read aloud! ! ! The rhyme and story line are fast paced. As a substitute teacher, I've read this to several age levels and it always keeps the kids interested. My own children ask to hear it again and again! You have to read it. All of Bill Peet's work in rhyme is fun!

No matter how many times my children ask me to read this book, and they ask alot, I never mind reading it again. It has a powerful "do the right thing and it will be returned to you" message.

I loved Bill Peet books as a child, and I still really like them today. I recently bought the whole set so that my children will have them, and realized that I remember every character and every plot from 20+ years ago when my parents read them to me. They really made an impact on me. The illustrations are cute and captivating, the characters are engaging, the stories and well told, and each book has a meaning. There are few authors who can create such a fine balance in childrens' books.

I recently picked up this gem at the local library with no idea that it is coveted collectors item. It's a splendid book that my children loved. I just bought two copies to to send to the other mothers in my life that looked out for me 20 years ago. It is THAT good and true classic.

Zella, Zack and Zodiac by renound author Bill Peet tells a "tail" of an odd partnership between bird and fowl with a great "kicker" in the end. I could not help the puns here. This is a beautiful example of pay it forward where kids can learn though the eyes of animals. The dialogue between the zebra and the baby ostrich is fabulous and told in Peet's characteristic rhyming stanza's. Since I have horses and admire birds, I can't help but love this book!

I love the book Zella, Zack, and Zodiac; but when I ordered it from a dealer in TX, he never sent it to me. After much wrangling, I finally got my money back. When I got on line to find a seller, I saw that the price of this book was now $95 from that dealer. hmmmm? If you can find this book for a reasonable price, buy it; it's great! Wish I could find it. diane

I read this to a prolific reader, age 7, and she was very interested all the way through. (So was I!) So was a 5-year-old who is sometimes bored with being read to. When we finished, both were satisfied in the way an adult is, when they've enjoyed a book that is a "really good read." Excellent quality in content and illustration.
