Book Description

An "Awesome Indie" short story...

Have you ever lost a beloved pet? Have you grieved and mourned yet still feel empty? May the road to Zellwood help you find an end to that sad journey.

*Note: Albeit quite poignant, please be aware this is a very short story. However, I hope you find the message within as cathartic as it was for me when I wrote it...

EXCERPT:

Smack in the center of the state, there sits a small town whose only claim to fame is spring-bottled water and an annual corn festival. It is a blink-of-the-eye beautiful burg with gently sloping hills and towering oaks laden with silvery, spidery Spanish moss. Boasting few traffic lights, it nevertheless has one spectacular pet cemetery.

Zellwood. Rarely does one go there on purpose. But since I have one - though some might say it's silly - I'm going. For somewhere in that tiny town, an old dog named Jake is buried...

4.0 out of 5 stars Dogs are forever January 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Laurie's and Tim's old dog Jake died exactly one year ago. While Laurie is over the worst of it, Annie, their ten-year-old wolf-dog child is still grieving. Laurie tells her ever-patient husband that she wants to make a two-hour trip to take Annie to the Zellwood pet cemetery where Jake was buried.

This is a touchingly beautiful short story. I cried for my dog, gone for seven years now. Those of us who have had a true bond with a pet never forget them, and maybe never truly get over the loss.

I hope that Ms. Stroud writes more. She certainly has a flair for storytelling and a gift for writing that draws you in and touches your heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grieving together December 5, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is truly a lovely story of what it means to experience love, loss and healing. There is no question that our beloved animals are emotional beings who experience joy and sadness. This story shows how dealing with shared loss can lead to moving forward together. This reminds me of the very poignant YouTube video of the faithful dog keeping vigil at the side of his master's flag draped coffin. Rebecca Stroud understands how complex animals are and how it our responsibility to help them however we can.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I have read many of these types of books as I am a dog lover and have lost many pets. Have found much better stories in other books with a similar theme. This was just a bore.
