This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. The story is about a nanny's unconditional love for a child, and the lessons that she teaches her. In the midst of a terrible situation that is beyond their control, the nanny teaches the little girl about being courageous, trusting her instincts, and being true to her own heart. If every child had an adult like this in their life, the world would be a better place. It is a thoughtful, insightful movie that shows how one truly loving person can make a significant difference in another's life.

Isabella Rossellini is sublime in this incredible drama involving a Nanny's un-dying support and love for a troubled child, played FANTASICALLY by Alexandra Jones. This child will steal your heart.

The scenes are dreamy...especially the wedding scene. SO BEAUTIFUL!

David Lynch as a Love Interest cannot be missed! Really superb!!!

This is the type of movie that you have to sit down and really watch. It is the story of a lonely girl whose parent's were killed in a car accident which forced her to live with her overbearing, obsessive-compulsive and often verbally abusive grandmother, and of the child's relationship with her nanny. This is one of my daughter and my all-time favorite movies. You can truly feel the pain of the child, her loneliness and her fear. It is nothing like "Mommie Dearest"...it is a very intimate and small cast of characters. I don't want to say too much and "give away" the movie but it is not your typical Hollywood drama and there are no predictible events. Definately a 5 star movie!!!!

I find it simply beautiful. It's not pretentious and slowly works on the heart of the viewer. Isabella Rosillini's performance is grand. In Zelly and Me, it is magnificently portrayed that one can own everything, and have nothing at all. Yet it is clear that Phoebe, the little girl, will survive. One comes from this movie admiring and weeping simultaneously.

this is a great movie, with great character study... the grandmother in this movie is a totally insecure bitch, trying to win the love of her granddaughter (phoebe) b/c she knows phoebe loves her mademoiselle (zelly) so much more...it's a tender and heartbreaking movie...

This movie was a favorite of my daughter, we watched it over and over back in the 80's. The love that the nanny had for this child was so unconditional -- and her parentals could certainly not measure up, with their lack of involvement in this child's life. Will always be a favorite. Isabelle Rosalini magnificent!

this film was good and is it just me or does the girl look just like gene tierney?

I have been looking for this movie, since I saw it on Cable a few years ago. Where I live, I cannot locate the film (even in rental stores). Normally, I am not a big David Lynch fan--because, most of his films are dark, depressing, sick and leave you feeling emotionally drained or like your morals have been run through a cheese grater. However, with that preface, I would like to say that "Zelly and Me" is a wonderful movie! I was worried that it had been taken out of print, because it is so obscure. This is one of those rare films that really impact you in a way you can barely describe.... It is very difficult to explain to someone why they should acquire this film--it is a typical Lynch flick, because it is somewhat depressing and slow...but, it is Brighter and (dare I say?) almost cheerful in small doses! "Zelly and Me" does not really feel like a Lynch film, until the end is approaching (when you are too hooked to escape). It has been years, since I saw this great movie, and I still would very-much like to track Lynch down and tell him he cannot end the movie the way he did <Legal Disclaimer: This is a joke, folks>. You just sit there and stare at the TV, mumbling, "He can't do that.... This isn't right." You will find the movie disturbing (it's Lynch), but not in the usual way. "Zelly and Me" is what I would call "Profoundly Disturbing." The film makes you think....

I'll cut to the chase. The movie as a whole is unappealing and boring, but it is memorable for David Lynch's performance. He plays the romantic interest for Isabella Rosselini. He plays a butler. He plays a man acting out a lie to curry favor with a woman. Did you know that David Lynch was this versatile an actor? His performance is sweetly sympathetic, a description that is not often attributed to Lynch, whose directorial efforts are notoriously off-kilter (though I personally find them hilariously in-tune with real life). If you enjoy Lynch, rent this movie just to see him in front of the camera. It is a joy.

Full of non-consensual sex, racist humor, and poor imitation German accents, this movie reaches for the bottom of the barrel. I have never seen such filth in my life. The only reason I give it one star is because of surprise cameo appearances by Garth Brooks, and the late Tupac Shakur.
