5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful music beautifully packaged, March 22, 2006

This review is from: Zemlinsky - "Cymbeline" Suite · Ein Tanzpoem · Frühlingsbegräbnis / Voight · Albert · Kübler · Conlon (Audio CD)
Given his homely looks and bad luck with women, Zemlinsky somehow wrote some absolutely GORGEOUS music. This cd on EMI is a perfect example.

You really can't go wrong with ANY Zemlinsky, as far as I'm concerned. He composed some lush, romantic orchestral music that includes his symphonies, along with some great choral music, and some very original and clever chamber works. Get all of his stuff!

This particular cd is as beautiful to listen to as the cd jacket and elaborate multi-page booklet are to look at. My favorite here is "Ein Tanzpoem", which I previously knew only as the ballet music to "Das Glaserne Herz". Great great music, exceptionally well played and recorded.

Pick up this wonderful cd, and allow yourself to melt into the fantasy and colors of this special music....

I value interesting music that is played and recorded well. This cd's rating was based on:
Music quality = 9.2/10; Performance = 9/10; Production = 9/10; CD length = 10/10.
Overall score weighted on my proprietary scale = 9.2 ("4-1/2 stars")

I have several Zenlinksy albums that I just adore. I discovered his music only in recent years and am amazed it is not better known. It deserves to be heard and heard often. If you like Straus and Korngold, then you will surely like this too. While he has his own distinctive style, it is very much in the Vienna style of the early 20th century. Pure pleasure. Get this and any other you can get your hands on!
