4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad at all for the price!
As there is not much out there in terms of accessories for the Zen -besides connector cables and power adapters- I was really excited to locate these a year ago. I needed something that would prop my Zen up so I could watch movies on it during breaks at work, and also allow me to listen to music in the background while taking calls.

3.0 out of 5 stars mp3 player speakers
I have to disagree with the previous reviewer. I bought a pair of these for my daughter's ipod and they sound great. I even bought another set to listen to my Vision M at work. Of course, if you're looking for the same listening experience you'd get from your home sound system or even good desktop computer speakers, you're going to be disappointed. But if all you want...

3.0 out of 5 stars mp3 player speakers, July 12, 2007

I have to disagree with the previous reviewer. I bought a pair of these for my daughter's ipod and they sound great. I even bought another set to listen to my Vision M at work. Of course, if you're looking for the same listening experience you'd get from your home sound system or even good desktop computer speakers, you're going to be disappointed. But if all you want is something to play your music and sound decent, this works as well as many much more expensive speakers I've seen being sold. It gets pretty loud and I didn't notice any distortion.

The bad thing about it is that the speaker isn't sold with the power adapter. (What's that about?) It runs for a surprisingly long time off 4 AA batteries, but you can buy an adapter at Best Buy, Circuit City or Radio Shack for less than $20. Just remember: 6V, 350mA.

The speakers are not the best quality out there, but it really is no different than tuning in to a radio station. This will not be the method by which you want to play music for friends at your next party, but it will play the music relatively clearly and relatively loudly. Perfect for a day at the shore or in a coffee shop.
If you want something that is portable and durable, these guys are the ticket. I've dropped them several times without so much as a crack or a chip, and the wires and connectors are all very sturdy. It is easy to set up and disassemble, and I have taken mine all over the US.
All in all it is an excellent accessory for the Zen or any other non-iPod mp3 player out there. The only improvement I could want would have been to have a method to power the speakers AND charge the mp3 player at the same time. As it is, I'm very pleased to have gotten such a good deal.

1.0 out of 5 stars Now I know why it's so cheap., July 1, 2007

This thing is a piece of junk. I was a little skeptical when I saw the price, but it was the only set of speakers for the Zen Vision:M that I could find. All it is is a speaker that plugs into the earphone jack of the Zen. The sound quality is absolutley horrible. If the speakers are turned up to an audible level they produce nothing but static. I tried playing with the volume on the Zen and on the speakers with no improvement. It isn't even worth the $13 I spent.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does the job., March 13, 2008

A top-of-the-line speaker system this is NOT, but it does the job.

As a happy owner of a Creative Zen Vision:M, which is now discontinued, finding a docking station is pretty much futile. They had a decent one on the market but like the player itself they're no longer available.

I just wanted something to use at work so I could hear some music, thanks to internet blocking I couldn't play all of my stuff through my computer speakers. Legally downloaded files require a check on the "rights" to that file and of course my work blocks those sites. So anything I purchased for download was off limits.

I had an FM transmitter, one burned out quickly and the other eats batteries like there's no tomorrow. I just wanted to hear music, I didn't need surround sound. I didn't need CD quality. I just wanted to hear music. This little gizmo does the trick.

Worth every penny.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just Fine for the Price, August 13, 2007

These speakers are just fine for what you pay for them. I did not notice any static or interference whatsoever no matter what the volume. For $13, they are a bargain. As was said before, the only thing they lack is a power cord.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy for Your Buck, July 14, 2010

This review is from: Zen Lover's Creative Zen Vision:M Speaker Docking Station (Electronics)
I was looking for speakers for my ZEN MX and these do exactly what I want them to do. The sound quality is actually better than expected after looking at the size of the speakers when they came in. I had the speaker/docking station for my Zen V and I was expecting to find something like that when I went looking for new speakers for my MX. When I ordered these based on the price, I wondered if I was throwing away my money. But I am very happy and I have to say that I really like this better for traveling because the other speakers were somewhat bulky.

My only complaint is the same one voiced in other reviews, I need an ac adapter for the speakers themselves, because I don't always have my computer handy and I like to put this in the bathroom so that while I am dressing, I have my music, but given the price and the quality, I will just make sure I have batteries on hand at all times

2.0 out of 5 stars Static Heard Over Music, January 11, 2009
This review is from: Zen Lover's Creative Zen Vision:M Speaker Docking Station (Electronics)
I picked up one of these at a retail store for a song. I was also able to pick up a USB adapter for it so I can run it without batteries.

I'll admit that I expect quite a bit from speakers as I was once a music major and do some audio editing, but I wasn't expecting much from this purchase -- and I was fine with that. I knew I wasn't getting 5.1 surround sound, but I did expect a decent quality output without noise, humming, static, or buzzing. Any speaker on the market should provide that at a minimum.

I've tried this speaker set many times in different situations and with different types of music. Here's what I've found:

iPhone: It works, but the sound levels don't support a full range. You won't hear a lot of the bass, and much of the upper register of a soprano, such as Loreena Mckennitt, is flat. There is a lot of static if the music is not playing, and some static can be heard with the music. The louder the volume, the louder the music. Also, there is a LOT of interference because of the phone (iPhone again). It will buzz and hum horribly, even if the sound is turned completely down. (That's a design flaw that has to do with using unshielded cables and parts.)

Laptop (MacBook Pro): Same range as with iPhone. More static but no buzzing, even with my iPhone sitting next to it. The static, however, makes it very unusable for me since I enjoy quiet, relaxing music, and the constantly noise destroys that. That static is not as noticeable for rock, alternative, etc.

Also: The cable is very short at only 8.5 inches. At least, it was too short for me to easily place the speakers in a non-obtrusive location.

Conclusion: The range isn't that bad for the price, but the noise and humming make it unacceptable. I did love that I could easily power it through USB with that extra cable I picked up. Still, spend another $10 for a better speaker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't beat the price!, January 7, 2012

This product arrived quickly and right out the box(add 4 AA batteries) and these little speakers got some kick to 'em! Plus they also come with a USB power cord, for 'other than battery power'. I connect my ipod touch whereever I'm at and I get an instant little party. The folding storage/docking feature is cool too, and you simply can not beat the price. All in all the best five bucks I ever spent!

All this cheap item did for me was give a second degree burn on my hand holding it while turning it on. It doesn't turn on with batteries connected neither with usb power.

Couldn't find a docking station anywhere else. This does the best possible job through a small cable hookup. Even with the volume turned all the way up on both the player and docking station, I still wish the overall volume were higher.
