Great reading! Kirsty takes her reader's on the lovable Jess Harper's rollercoaster adventure in Japan. There really is something for everyone - hilarious, albeit embarrassing incidents you can completely relate to, an exotic location and culture described right down to the Chu-Hi, drama with friends and colleagues, and of course love and romance, with possibly the cutest ending ever!!

This was an enjoyable read. If you like chit lit, you'll love this book. The author does a great job with both the characters and the setting (Japan). Can't wait to read her next book!

This was a terrific first effort by the author. I finished it in one day, as I found it difficult to put down. In fact, I almost missed my stop on the subway due to being so entertained by the author's adventures in Japan. Some might consider this work "chick lit", but I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I think that this book will be appreciated by both male and female readers. I found it to be laugh out loud funny at times. As another reviewer mentioned, I look forward to future efforts from the author.

Read this book if you want to know more about Japan,
This review is from: Zen Queen (Kindle Edition)
I'm Japanese and I really loved the book. I can see the author lived in Japan for a while. All the cultural experience that the main character, Jessica, goes through is so true. I can tell because I saw my American husband reacting in the same way when he visited Japan for the first time. From their crazy fashion to awesome public transportation, this book tells you what it's like to live there.I loved how Jessica grew up through her tough experience. At first I thought she was a little bit too drama queen, but the more I read the more I liked her. She is funny, down to earth, and she doesn't give up easily. However, there are some people that I couldn't really believe that they are real. The hair stylist, two Western guys from Bella, and the Japanese girl Miki---their characters didn't have much depth and their actions are kind of over the top. That's the reason I gave it 4 starts instead of 5. Overall I really enjoyed this book.

I'm 3/4 of the way through the book but feel fairly confident enought to give a review before finishing it. I bought it as a freebie and was a little put off by the 'cover' picture ( thinking it might be a typical blah chick lit) but as it was free i thought i would give it a go.
The Author has a sense of humour that i could totally relate to and i found parts hilarious. The book flowed, has kept my interest and i am really enjoying it. I won't hesitate to buy another book written by Kirsty McManus. |
