5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best rune set I have used.
I have been actively studying zen for nearly seven years. I have also been actively using runes since I was ten years old. When I discovered this particular rune set, I was flabbergasted. I spent the last twenty bucks I had to get them, & I haven't been disappointed in the least. The runes are beautiful, the book is filled with wisdom, and I have found a...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a zen to publish such a book
Although the haikus are lovely (although they are not the Japanese style of haiku, they still work), zen and Norse do not mix well. On top of that, the readings for divination stray away from the standard a little to far. Example: Thurisaz is called "The Guardian of the Threshold. The haiku is as follows:

The guardian of the threshold

I have been actively studying zen for nearly seven years. I have also been actively using runes since I was ten years old. When I discovered this particular rune set, I was flabbergasted. I spent the last twenty bucks I had to get them, & I haven't been disappointed in the least. The runes are beautiful, the book is filled with wisdom, and I have found a greater clarity in my readings than ever before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Very Nice Set of Runes, August 19, 2000
This review is from: Zen Runes Kit: An Inspirational Combination of Rune Wisdom and Zen Insight (Hardcover)
This is a really well put together and well thought out addition to the traditional runes. I have been familier with runes for a number of years and this set peaked my interest. I was not in the least sorry that I bought them. Even tho I wondered how the two philosophies would mesh...I was pleasantly surprized to find that not only did they mesh but the zen features added to the original runes. The book was a joy to read and had a lot of wisdom of its own... I love to "tote" around one of these runes each day. They are lovely and nice to focus on and meditate to as well as to use with the spreads described in the book. I think you'll enjoy these very much.

Only problem with this is that the "guardian" of this rune is Thor and her was never this mellow (unless he was partying and even then he was never a "guardian of a threshold."

Definitely not one for the serious rune worker, but still worth collecting just for fun and for the nice runes that come with it.

2.0 out of 5 stars book is ok, runes are not., July 22, 2006
This review is from: Zen Runes Kit: An Inspirational Combination of Rune Wisdom and Zen Insight (Hardcover)
I ordered this product used. The delivery was earlier than I expected. I liked that. The book is easy to read and understand. Each rune including reversed versions have thier own page. Good descriptions also. But the runes were plastic and awful. Maybe new it comes with better runes? If you buy it used, ask questions first. Buy more for the book, order runes seperate?

4.0 out of 5 stars Zen Runes, March 8, 2005
This review is from: Zen Runes Kit: An Inspirational Combination of Rune Wisdom and Zen Insight (Hardcover)
I bought this little treasure a few years back (maybe 4 years ago now?). I know a lot of people tend to think that Runes are just Nordic, historically. But this set of runes is absolutely wonderful if you are interested in Zen or Asian philosophies. If you are a Nordic lover though, please do not try to merge the two as they each have their own unique backgrounds, it would be like comparing Europe to Asia. Each have their own beauty, myths, and mystery. But if you are just drawn into the field of Divination, keep an open mind with this wonderful set as it offers a different perpective than the average Western decks/rune sets.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Take on Zen and Runes, December 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Zen Runes Kit: An Inspirational Combination of Rune Wisdom and Zen Insight (Hardcover)
I'd been reading up on Zen philosophy and subsequently became interested in Runes and Targot cards. I'm a beginner and found this book an interesting take on both Zen and Runes. For experienced users this may not be for them, then again, maybe they will welcome the change of pace. My book did *not* come with a set of stones, which was a little disappointing and misleading in the description. However, I had already purchased an inexpensive set of stones and was able to follow along. This should not be advertised as a "kit" since it is only the book.
