This review is from: The Zen of Zombie: Better Living Through the Undead (Zen of Zombie Series) (Paperback)
I have not read a single self-help book in my life and have been grateful that it has never been a calling of mine. Sure, a few business class reads about the habits of this and who moved my cheese and so on, but THIS is THE tome for the person who needs a whole life makeover.
Nothing can compare to becoming a zombie as a way to helping yourself. Zombies are Zen, they are pure and do not deviate. We can all learn a great deal by studying everything there is to know about zombies and trying to emulate them. Well, except for the eating of brains part. But the idea here is to have the focus, the raw determination, the lack of concern for minor or even major details. All of it must be disposed of in the face of complete zombification. This book discussed the 24 habits of highly effective zombies (which are the only kind there is), which include such genuine gems as this: be adaptable, be your own boss, remember its just stuff, and digging a grave? You've got it made! The book also gives you a twelve step plan to complete zombification in 90 days. How you conquer your fears (and make those who you have feared in the past now fear you), playing it cool, letting go of your ego, and being in the zombie zone are all just a portion of the wisdom imparted between these pages. This is a rollicking good book that lacks all inhibitions. The author is wise to the ways of zombies and plays it to the hilt here. He takes great pleasure in driving his point home with heaping handfuls of gruesome advice that had me laughing and nodding in agreement the whole way along. If you are looking for a good laugh and an excellent self help guide at the same time, look no further, The Zen of Zombie is your answer.

You Can Learn Everything You Need to Know from Zombies,

This is the hottest new zombie book on the market and the best thing that's happened in zombie literature since Max Brook's Zombie Survival Handbook. This is just as funny and the artwork is incredible.

While reading this book, a co-worker - who is addicted to any self-help book with "Zen" in the title - came up and started prattling in my ear. "Oh, a Zen book?"
"With zombies." "W-w-well, is it serious?" "Oh, no. It's a joke. Totally." She picked up the book and started flipping through it. "No, there's a lot in here that's pretty serious. I think it's humorous, but serious." So I moaned "bbbrrrrrrraaaaaaains", lurched forward (slowly, of course) and bit her on the scalp. She laughed and left (my biting style needs work), thus not irritating me any more! Acting like a zombie really did help me achieve what I wanted! Thanks, The Zen of Zombie!

This book is in the humor section of bookstores, yet I fail to understand why. This book is written as a parody of self-help modules by focusing on the habits and traits of zombies. However, the joke gets real old, real fast. The first half of the book describes the successful habits of zombies and how you can improve your life by emulating them. Basically, it's the author repeating the same tired point over and over again. Yes we understand that zombies are single minded in their all-consuming quest for brains. There you have it. Somehow the author manages to stretch that same point and beats it to living death (no pun intended). What is truly tragic is that unintentional pun was about as funny as anything you'll read in the book.
The second half of the book was about how to undergo zombification yourself, and was just as boring as the first half. I understand that zombies are the new flavor of the month, and this author has managed to jump on the bandwagon and screw a few people out of their hard earned cash, myself, unfortunately included. If you are looking for an entertaining zombie read, then look to Max Brooks, his two zombie books were MUCH better.

Really, really funny. It's a send-up of self-help books that is 1. funny and 2. weirdly accomplishes its not-goal. By making you think of memorable and weird zombie, you actually spend brain energy thinking about what an ACTUAL self-help book might have you think about. E.g. thinking of eating brains, you wind up thinking about protein intake in your diet. Etc.
Recommended. Now I'm off to eat some brains to boost my protein intake.

I laughed so hard I almost ate brain,
This review is from: The Zen of Zombie: Better Living Through the Undead (Zen of Zombie Series) (Paperback)
This book was hilarious from start to finish. What sells me the most on this book is the way Scott Kenemore so effortlessly blends over the top humor with what would pass for actual self-help shlock ready to be inhaled by the aimless. Even better is the way that the language runs the gamut from pedantic to needs-soap-in-his-mouth foul. The content carries itself (the mere idea of zombie emulation as a means to self efficacy? come on!), but the execution is flawless. Zombie fans will enjoy this, but really anyone should.

It has good topics in general but the way this author express them and presents them is lackluster and disappointing. Read through half the book and did not want to finish it. Not for the casual reader.

A very different self help book,
This review is from: The Zen of Zombie: Better Living Through the Undead (Zen of Zombie Series) (Paperback)
Are you unsatisfied with your life? Have you read ever self help book out there an still haven't achieved the success of their beautiful, smiling authors? Well, you're in luck. Achieve a state of zen and all the success you want by emulating zombies. Scott Kenemore, in his revolutionary self-help book The Zen of Zombie, lists all the attributes and characteristics of zombies that can help you with the reasoning behind it. Then, in the second half of the book, guides you through a 12 week process in which to take on these characteristics so that you can become the person you want to be.
Don't listen to all the slander of the media, saying that zombies are mindless creatures who must be destroyed. Zombies are to be envied. Their extreme focus and drive is often mistaken for mindlessness. Don't you wish you could go after something as intently as a zombie going after brains? Zombies have it worse than any other group. What other group gets attacked, verbally and physically, instantly without any repercussions? Zombies don't let this get them down. Scott Kenemore is hilarious. Every page is funny and stays to the point. I learned about how I can apply his theory to many situations in my life: in my job, my love life, and my life in general. I have never read a book where being a zombie or zombie-like was a positive. He covered all types of zombies: slow moving, higher functioning, fast moving, etc. My favorite part of the book is when he reasoned that Jesus is a zombie. I know many people might be offended by this, but it's really funny. Have a sense of humor about your faith once in a while. Plus he has a point. The Zen of Zombie is a great addition to anyone's zombie library. I would recommend this to anyone with a sense of humor.

This book is really funny in a lot of ways. There is a lot in it that could actually be in a self help book. You find yourself thinking "yeah that is a useful trait" and then stop yourself because the author is talking about ZOMBIES! Also, there is a part that is in french that cracked me up.
