Choppy Picture & Sound Cuts in and out,

Not sure if this is just my unit or a design defect. About a half hour into watching a DVD the system seems to get overloaded and the sound startes to cut off and on and the picture gets choppy (frames freeze) and finally the DVD stops playing. Is anyone else having this problem?
