Book Description

Joelle married Rob Williams, lead singer of the rock band Zenith, before she was old enough to know better. She has spent years following Zenith around, while they struggle to become rock stars. Only now, alcoholism has replaced the talent that once was going to make Rob a legend… leaving Joelle’s life spiraling out of control. The problem is there isn’t a soul in the world that cares, including her husband.

Nick Lassiter is a powerful business magnate in Seattle, Washington and was acquainted with Joelle, long ago before she became Joelle Williams. Nick’s return to Joelle’s life gives her a link to a world outside of Zenith. A world that starts to become far more appealing than the crazy, alcohol-soaked one she lives in. Until the fateful night when her entire life implodes and Nick is the only person she has to run to. Joelle soon sees only one thing clearly: Nick Lassiter has become so much more than just a friend who can save her.

When Zenith disbands and Rob tries to get sober, Joelle begins to discover her own identity outside of Zenith, and the person she finds is nothing like the young, fragile girl who needed rescuing when Nick first met her. Who she discovers just might be a woman worth loving.

**Please be warned that all my titles contain swearing, sexual situations, mature content matter and often mild violence.**

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional and tragic but ohhhh so good... December 23, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When you read a Leanne Davis book you know it’s going to be something so painfully emotional, and tragic, that your stomach feels knotted while reading it. When I saw she had a new series coming out I was both happy and scared at the same time. Her characters go through feelings of guilt, sadness and devastated sympathy before getting there happy ending and as a reader you are along on that emotional journey from beginning to end. This is the first book in a 3 book series. The series is based loosely around the members of a band called Zenith.

The heroine Joelle Williams is married to the lead singer. Joelle lost both her parents for different reasons and by high school she was in foster care and alone. When she met Rob Williams she was just 19 and lonely with no sense of self and had radically changed her appearance. They married shortly after and now 4 years later she is attending Al-Anon meetings and trying to stay afloat living with an alcoholic husband and the band members in squalor. She doesn’t know who she is anymore. She’s become a doormat to her husband who controls her emotionally but she is so scared of being alone she puts up with everything until she runs into the older brother of a childhood friend at the Al-Anon meetings. At first she is embarrassed for him to see what she has become and figures he is going to judge her based on her hair, tattoos and piercings. But he soon becomes her lifeline and the only friend she can depend on when things get worse with Rob.

Nick Lassiter was such a uniquely written character. From the start he never saw what was on the outside of Joelle. He only saw what was on the inside and he knew she needed saving.

MAJOR SPOILERS: I am surprised at how much I enjoyed reading this book because cheating is a trigger for me and the h cheats on her husband with the hero. However, everyone involved is likable or at least redeemable, which surprised me including the OW & OM.

The h leaves her husband b/c alcoholic and mixed up in drugs and one night things went too far. Hero is only her friend and her savior at first. He takes her in. Husband never cheated on the heroine during their 5 years of marriage and subsequent separation even though tons of opportunity b/c he is in band. Also, his resistance would have been lower given he is an addict. (They always had the husband horny despite the drugs and booze.) I greatly admired that about him and for the author have him being faithful. It would have been so easy to make him an nonredeemable villain, having him cheat on her on top of everything else, especially when she eventually cheated on her too. When she left him, the husband got clean and tried to win back the heroine . The H's girlfriend is a doctor. She is nice and likable and gives the heroine a place to stay. The girlfriend breaks it off with the H after he kissed the h but before anything else happened because she realized that he loved the h and that she the girlfriend, did not have strong feelings for the him.

The book flowed well. I read it in one sitting now wanting to stop reading. There were no notifiable grammar mistakes. It has a HFN and there are more books in the series but about other characters including one about the h' husband which I look forward to reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Opposites Attract February 3, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the story of a young girl and her struggle to find her way. After marrying the leader of a rock band when she was only 18 and living the life of a groupie she finally realises that there was more to life than she was experiencing. Along comes Nick the brother of an old school friend. He is handsome, rich and very confident, the exact opposite of herself. She travels a long road to finally break free of her insecurities and find future happiness. This is another wonderful book by Leanne Davis which she fills with compassion, drama, hope and fulfillment. It is extremely well written and another book to add to my library of great writing. Look forward to reading the next in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional, Painful and Real April 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is my first read by Leanne Davis but i was blown away. As a wife and mom I have experienced the depths of addiction and alcoholism. I love that reading this brought the painful, emotional, and even tragic affects of this disease and it was protrayed as it really is. I love a good love story but this was so much more. I could not stop reading until I was finished and immediately went to the next. In 2 days I've read the entire series and yes I cried. I repeat myself I was blown away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book by this author June 4, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story was very gripping. A young girl that thought she had found her true love for life is starting to realize that the lifestyle they are leading is suffocating her and dragging her down. An unexpected acquaintance from the past comes into the picture and changes everything she thought she knew and wanted. If you have read other series by this author you will not be disappointed by this first book to this series.
