It features up to a 1280 x 768-pixel resolution and a 25 miilisecond response time. It also features a 400:1 contrast ratio with a 450 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating and an amazing 178-degree wide-angle viewability.

The Z17LZ5R features a widescreen picture aspect ratio (16:9; standard TVs have a 4:3 aspect ratio), which is the ideal screen format for viewing widescreen video from DVD players and the growing availability of broadcast programming off digital HDTV tuners (HD content is always widescreen), cable boxes and satellite receivers.

Faroudja's DCDi (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) and TrueLife video processing eliminate jagged edges that appear with progressive-scan displays for a smoother picture. The 2D digital comb filter helps reduce video noise by comparing each horizontal scanning line with the lines above and below and with the corresponding line on the previous subsequent video frames. Other features include a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner, high definition capability (with separate tuner), color temperature adjustment, three-mode aspect ratio adjustment, and a lamp life of up to 60,000 hours. It offers such standard television features as custom channel labels, favorite channel selection, sleep timer, V-Chip parental controls, flashback to previous channel, and tri-lingual menus (English, French, Spanish).

The Z17LZ5R has two built-in 5-watt speakers (for 10 watts of total power) and a volume leveler feature. It offers the following video and audio connections:

I had read some reviews on other web sites about this Zenith LCD Z17LZ5R TV. Some of the reviews were critical of it's looks but overall gave it pretty good marks in most other areas. I really like the looks or should I say non-looks of this tv. It has a silver/gray very non-descrip case that blends well into the wall were I have it mounted in my kitchen - just what I was looking for. I didn't want it to stick out like a sore thumb just blend into it's surroundings. Of course the most important thing is the quality of the picture and sound. It has a crisp, clear, and bright screen. Color rendering is excellent and sound out of it's speakers is good but not fantastic. I found sets of similar quality that were somewhat cheaper but in the end decided to go with the Zenith name. I have owned several Zenith sets previously and they have always given me good service with little or no trouble. If the sound would have been better and the price a little less I would have given it 5 stars.
