Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Enjoy bright, brilliant imagery from high-definition telecasts and your favorite DVD movies with the 50-inch Zenith Z50PX2D EDTV-ready plasma television, which includes built-in high-definition (ATSC) and 181-channel standard broadcast (NTSC) tuners. With the integrated ATSC tuner, you'll be able to receive off-air high definition broadcasts without the need for an external set-top box. The R57W47C also features a digital cable tuner (QAM), which allows for the reception of digital cable signals that are not scrambled.

With a gas-plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than those of most LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim profile--the Z42PX2DH is less than 4 inches deep, perfect for desk placement (on the supplied stand) or wall mounting (with optional mounting kit).

The Z50PX2D's screen offers a 1366 x 768 resolution for an extremely detailed image, as well as a 160-degree viewing angle, 1000 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating, and stunning 8000:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.)

The 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing feature detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth theater-like experience at home. The 3D Y/C digital comb filter analyzes consecutive scanning lines within a field as well as the preceding and following fields. This results in improved detail and color purity, a more stable video image, and nearly eliminating dot crawl and color bleeding. Other video features include color temperature adjustment, aspect ratio adjustment, enhanced noise reduction, and a 60,000-hour screen lifetime. It includes such television features as V-Chip parental controls, sleep timer, custom channel labels, and tri-lingual menus (English, French, Spanish).

The 30-watt stereo audio system (two 15-watt speakers) delivers ample sound for sports and movies, and it can also provide SRS TruSurround XT virtual surround sound. It offers the following video and audio connections:

  • Composite AV (RCA) In: 1 (1 rear, 1 side)
  • Composite AV (RCA) Out: 1
  • S-Video In: 2 (1 rear, 1 side)
  • Component Video In (Y PB PR): 2
  • HDMI In: 1
  • RF In: 2
  • VGA PC input: 1
  • Optical Audio Out: 1
  • PC sound (1/8"): 1

Tech Talk
HDMI -- HDMI makes an uncompressed digital RGB connection from the source to the screen. By eliminating conversion to an analog signal, it delivers an unblemished image. The non-degraded signal reduces flicker and leads to a clearer picture. HDMI intelligently communicates the highest output resolution with the source device. The HDMI input is fully backward compatible with DVI sources but includes digital audio. HDMI uses HDCP copy protection.

What's in the Box
Plasma TV, remote control (with batteries), table stand, printed operating instructions

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't last long..., December 5, 2006
This review is from: Zenith Z50PX2D 50-Inch Plasma HDTV (Electronics)
****UPDATE**** - After spending $1000 to have this t.v. fixed, it was about 7 months later, and once again, POP - out goes the picture. Zenith's products are a joke, and it's very clear that this particular product is defective and should have been recalled. However Zenith would rather keep your $3000+ instead of stand behind their product. It's no wonder Zenith changed their name to LG because they know that nobody will buy anything that says "Zenith" on it. It's only a matter of time until people catch on to "LG" and they earn a bad reputation. We also sent a very nasty e-mail to Zenith/LG about this, and have not heard squat in response. Not so much as even a "We're sorry you're unhappy with the product". Thanks for nothing Zenith. I wish I could have my $4000 back, because less than 2 years from original date of purchase, this t.v. is going to the dumpster. Would have been only a year if I hadn't had it repaired.

Everything below is my original review:

I bought this TV 1 year and 2 weeks ago. Overall I was happy with the picture quality (although the blacks are really splotchy). Unfortunately, I was watching TV when POP! there went the screen. Of course the warranty was only for 1 year (even though the website states a 2 year warranty on Plasma TV's) so I just got screwed by 2 weeks. Reading the other reviews I see out of only 7 reviews, at least one other person has had this happen as well. This makes me really question the quality of this TV. Do yourself a favor and buy a Sony or a panasonic or at least get a really long, extended service plan. Getting burned for $3500 sucks.

1.0 out of 5 stars tv died after 15 months, popped and toxic fumes, August 15, 2007
This review is from: Zenith Z50PX2D 50-Inch Plasma HDTV (Electronics)
I know we had done consumer report reviews and were excited at the time b/c of the price and LG type plasma at a zenith price.MY D/H had seen these reviews 4 mos. ago and was praying it would not happen to us but it did.THE POP reality happened this am.I will never again buy anything with the zenith name.I thought they stood for quality but no more.Count us in on the class action suit for duping all of us that were surprised by such an inferior product that should have never been on the market in the first place.Cathy Naylor

3.0 out of 5 stars DIDNT LAST LONG AGAIN!!, December 23, 2006
This review is from: Zenith Z50PX2D 50-Inch Plasma HDTV (Electronics)
Yup, heres another one. Great picture, even greater with HD channels especially Direct TV's NFL package. Discover HD is just incredible. Last Sunday my son was watching cartoons in the morning and POP there goes the picture. This TV was exactly 53 weeks old. I purchased the extended warranty offered by Best Buy so lets see how that goes.
