Biography

DJs Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxton started Basement Jaxx after hosting a popular club night in London during the 90s. They turned their attention to making their own music and released debut album Remedy in 1999. It was a huge success, with singles "Red Alert" and "Rendez-Vu" both reaching the Top 5 of the UK charts. Their second album was named Rooty after the club nights they used to run. Editorial Reviews

2010 CD EP release from the Grammy Award-winning British Electronic duo, the follow-up to their 2009 album Scars. Basement Jaxx consists of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe, who have been creating innovative electronic sounds since the late 1990s. 'Zephyr' is culled from the Scars sessions with the tempo taken down a notch or two, making it possible to take in all their lush groves without breaking a sweat. Zephyr is billed as an EP, though it clocks in at over 30 minutes long! 10 tracks. XL Recordings.

4.0 out of 5 stars A departure, but exactly why I love the Basement Jaxx, February 15, 2010

This review is from: Zephyr (MP3 Download)
This is a DARK album. If you are expecting "Red Alert" here, don't bother. Zephyr is experimental, atonal at times, reminiscent of early 20th Century minimalism. John Cage blended with funk, and house beats. This is not an easily accessible album. Give it a chance because it's brilliance will astound you. Western Asian influences dominate the soul of this album. Jazz and ethereal environmental elements surround you and lift you up to the heavens. This is a "Great Pair of Headphones" and a bottle of wine (or whatever your pleasure) album.
Please don't dismiss it after the first listen, or as a bunch of random noise.
Think of this one as a Picasso.... It takes a little time to make out all the faces and objects but once you do, it really is beautiful.
